Manute is a fictional character in the Sin City comics. In the film adaption he is portrayed by Michael Clarke Duncan. Manute is noted as being an extremely large African American who is always wearing a chauffeur's uniform. His most striking trait is a piercing golden eye, which replaces his injured eye. Manute is fanatically devoted to Ava Lord, looking to her as a "Goddess". It is implied that he had at one point had a sexual relationship with her.

[edit] A Dame To Kill For

In A Dame to Kill For, Manute is Damien Lord's manservant, although he is seemingly aware of Ava Lord's scheme to collect on her husbands' inheritance by deceiving Dwight Mcarthy into murdering him. Manute arrives at a Sallon where Ava is meeting Dwight Mcarthy to bring her back to Damien Lord's estate. He later pummels Dwight when he sneaks into the Lord estate and throws him from a car, leaving him bleeding in a back ally. Manute and Dwight clash a second time when he follows Ava to Dwight's apartment, besting him again and hurling Dwight from a window, and then proceeding to hit Dwight with a car. Dwight enlists the help of Marv in penetrating the Lord estate, where although it is not shown Marv mentions that he left Manute alive but ripped out one of his eyes. Hiding his new face, Dwight warns a hospitalized Manute, sporting a golden eye at gunpoint not to return to work for Ava Lord, Manute expresses his fanatical opinion of Ava and tells Dwight he has "the eyes of a dead man". Manute faces Dwight yet again, recognizing his eyes when Dwight impersonates an assassin hired by Ava. Dwight shoots Manute several times in the chest, but Manute is shot out of a window by Ava and is skewered through both arms by Miho.

Manute appears as an enforcer for for Mob Boss Walenquist in The Big Fat Kill. He abducts Gail and later leads his men outside to meet with Dwight, who trades Jack Rafferty's head (concealing an explosive charge) to Manute in exchange for Gail. After the trade Dwight detonates the head, burning Manute's face. Manute is then gunned down by dozens of prostitutes on the nearby rooftops.

Manute makes a brief appearance in Hell And Back, where after informing the Colonel that there may be a problem, follows Wallace to Esther's apartment and is easily beaten and kicked through a window.
