[edit] Industries

  • The area is dominated by the coal mines that belong to Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. The company is the largest producer of coal in South India. The researchers indicate that Manuguru still has coal reserves for another 200 years. The employees of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. reside either at PV Colony or Pilot Colony. These colonies include different classes of homes. All facilities like school, library, gymnasium, dispensary, parks, playgrounds, well constructed roads, 24-hour water supply, electricity, LPG, hospital expenses, etc. are free here. Regulagandi is a tank, which was used for drinking water. Now Godhavari (Gouthami) river is the main source for drinking water.
  • This town is situated in a forest, one reason for the pleasant atmosphere here. The plants with colourful flowers bloom in Autumn. In summer it's very hot; everyone can feel this difference. On one hill a filter-bed is constructed and on another hill, near Hanuman temple, one can find a waterfall. A police firing range is located on this waterfall hill, and it's dangerous to go near the waterfall without the knowledge of a firing session. People have observed that this firing disturbs the animals life in the forest, especially creatures like rabbits.
  • Manuguru also has a heavy water plant, situated near the villages of Jaggaram and Ammavaripalle. This is the biggest heavy water plant in India, with 180 T/Yr design capacity. The plant belongs to the Department of Atomic Energy. The employees of the heavy water plant reside at Ashwapuram or Aswapuram (Mandal headquarters). This modern colony contains all facilities like school, library, dispensary, parks, playgrounds and well constructed roads. Water facility has to be appreciated.
  • The temple of Lord Shiva (Sivalayam) was constructed during the reign of great Kings (and/or Queen) of the Kakathiya dynasty. Two Siva lingas have appeared one on one. The second Siva linga (beneath linga) is an old one and was (prathista) by Kakathiyas. The upper one was placed for the convenience of pilgrims. The Maha Shivaraatri festival is celebrated exuberantly here.

[edit] Transport

  • Manuguru railway station is 6 km away from the main town and is termus of a Broad gauge branchline. Only one passenger train does its services to Secunderabad daily. Electrification of this route was done in February 2008. The second class fare is about Rs.166.
  • Manuguru bus depot is the one of the profitable bus depots in district (Khammam). RTC buses connect all main towns and cities of Andhra Predesh. Like coal mines, these buses are also one of the reason for the name 'Manuguru' to become popular in the state.
