Manono Island

Manono is an island of Samoa, in the Apolima Strait between the main islands of Savaii and Upolu, 3.4 km WNW off Lefatu Cape, the westernmost point of Upolu. Like the other islands of Apolima Strait, it is part of Aiga-i-le-Tai district, which is mainly based on Upolu, occupying its western end. Manono is 3 km² in area. The population of 773 (census) is distributed among four villages:
Out of the four inhabited islands of Samoa, it is the third in population, after the much larger islands Upolu and Savai'i, and before Apolima. No dogs are allowed on the island. There are no cars either; just a footpath that follows the coast. In the early 19th century, the island was sometimes called Flat Island, because it consists of a small, flat hill and surrounding low-lying terrain, which is only visible at close approach.
About 700 meters WNW of the northwestern corner of Manono, at the westernmost outer edge of the barrier reef fringing Upolu, is Nu'ulupa Island, 37 m high and about 100 meters in diameter (0.01 km²).
