Manon Rhéaume (born February 24, 1972) is a Canadian goaltender and Olympic silver medalist who was the first woman to play in the NHL, having played in two exhibition games for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Manon Rhéaume was born in Lac Beauport, Quebec, Canada to Nicole and Pierre Rhéaume. She has one older brother, Martin, and one younger, Pascal, who was a center for NHL's New Jersey Devils.
She was signed as a free agent to Tampa Bay Lightning and played two pre-season games against the St. Louis Blues in the 1992 preseason and the Boston Bruins in the 1993 preseason. Tampa Bay General Manager Phil Esposito later admitted it was nothing more than a publicity stunt to raise awareness of the expansion Lightning.[citation needed] She played a total of 24 games for various minor league teams between 1992 and 1997 and on the Canadian silver-medal winning Olympic hockey team in 1998. While in Atlanta, Manon wrote her autobiography - Manon: Alone In Front Of The Net.
Manon Rhéaume was married in June 1998 and has two sons.
