Manning MacDonald CD is a Canadian politician. He currently represents the electoral district of Cape Breton South in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He is a member of the Liberals.
MacDonald is a former Sea Cadet officer, and he retired with the rank of lieutenant.
He previously served as mayor of Sydney from 1978 to 1993, the longest-serving mayor in that city's history.
MacDonald was first elected to the Assembly in 1993. He has been re-elected in every subsequent election. He served in a few ministerial post during the Liberal Governments of the 1990s. He is the current House Leader of the Liberal Party, as well as the critic for Treasury and Policy Board, Economic Development, Nova Scotia Business Incorporated, and Innovation Corp.
