Manitou Cliff Dwellings
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Manitou Cliff Dwellings are a tourist attraction, located just west of Colorado Springs, Colorado on US Highway 24 in Manitou Springs. Although the appeal of the cliff dwellings is that they are supposedly an accurate representation of the homes of the ancient Anasazi people, the truth is that the Anasazi never lived anywhere near Colorado Springs, and that the adobe walls that make up the dwellings were actually hauled from Mesa Verde, several hundred miles to the southwest, and reassembled in their present location.[1] Still, the Manitou Cliff Dwellings remain a popular destination, both for locals from the Colorado Springs area and for tourists.

[edit] Anasazi Museum
The Cliff Dwellings' museum is located within the facility and it exhibits authentic Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings that were built over 700 years ago. The Anasazi lived and roamed the Four Corners area of the United States Southwest from 1200 B.C. to A.D. 1300. The Museum was established in 1904 and opened to the public in 1906.[2]
