Manitoba Highway 8
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Provincial Trunk Highway 8 (PTH 8) is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from the north limit of the City ofWinnipeg (where it meets with Route 180/McPhillips Street) north to Hecla-Grindstone Provincial Park.
The highway between Winnipeg and PR 230 is known as McPhillips Street. At PR 230, McPhillips Street continues as PR 230 until PTH 9, Selkirk By-pass.
PTH 8 and PR 230 were formerly Highway 9, and most of PTH 9 was formerly Highway 4. Originally, all Highway 8 had was a route between Hecla Island and Highway 9, and Highway 9 was just a road from Gimli to Selkirk. In the late-1980s, the highways were renumbered to their present status.
The route is a major road connecting Winnipeg with the communities of Gimli and Winnipeg Beach. The speed limit is 100 km/h (60 mph).
