Mangalgad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mangalgad, also known as Kangori, is a fort in India that was built by Chandrarao More of Jawli. The fort stands roughly 2,465 feet tall, and was captured by Shivaji in 1656. Mangalgad consists of a single temple, called Kangori Devi Temple, with cisterns at the top. The ‘wada’ and prison are both in ruins.
Mangalgad is located near Dudhanewadi village, and can be reached from Pune via a journey through Bhor, Varandh Ghat, and finally Varandh, which lies roughly 18km from Dudhanewadi. After reaching Dudhanewadi, an easy trek route leads to the top of the Mangalgad fort.
Visitors who are not interested in the history of Mangalgad but want to have a good time are advised to visit during the rainy season.
