Smt.Mangalam Ganapathy, an ordinary housewife with no formal training in music and proficiency in any language, at the age of 64 years, is suddenly bestowed by divine grace[clarify], with powers to create compositions of the highest order in classical mould in Carnatic music.
Smt.Mangalam Ganapathy was born in 1934 in an orthodox middle class family at Kallidaikurichi, in Tirunelveli district in south India among seven children.
What is amazing is her ability to write, the lyrics set to a particular raga, tala on any one of the hundreds of the godheads of the Hindu pantheon and that too in one of the five languages all at the same time.
The genre of Carnatic music she has covered in her compositions ranges from varnam, krithis, ragamalikas, thillanas, devotional bhajans etc.
The alarming speed[clarify] with which she composes has resulted in more than six thousand compositions in 9 years from 1998.
She has won[weasel words] the acclaim of the doyens of carnatic music, musicians, musicologists and reviewers.
Dr.V.V.Srivatsa, Musicologist, Composer and Musician says, "An in depth perusal of the compositions of Smt. Mangalam Ganapathy left an indelible impression on me and I have no hesitation whatsoever in concluding that her compositions deserve to be classified amongst the finest ones of the present era. Having heard her render some compositions, she is indeed a vaggeyakara of a unique genre."
