Manga Studio (known in Japan as ComicStudio) is a software application for Mac OS X (EX version currently not supported in Mac OS X 10.5) and Microsoft Windows used for the digital creation of comics. It is developed by Celsys and was originally distributed in the West by e frontier, and is now distributed by Smith Micro Graphics. There are two versions of the program: the full-featured Manga Studio EX, intended for professional artists, and Manga Studio Debut, with a smaller feature set intended for amateurs and less advanced professional users.
Manga Studio has tools for sketching, inking, applying tones and textures, and creating word balloons and captions. Although it can handle color art, it is designed to be most useful for black and white art.
On 15th November 2007 Smith Micro Software announced the purchase of Manga Studio, Poser and Anime Studio from e frontier[1].
[edit] Manga Studio and TokyoPop
Tokyopop has begun using Manga Studio for its original projects, including Van Von Hunter. Artist Mara Aum uses this program exclusively for all her toning done for this company.
