Manfred Salzgeber

Manfred Salzgeber (born 1943 in Lodz - 12 August 1994) was a German actor and film producer. He was director of Sektion Panorama" at Internationales Filmfestspiel Berlin. He was a co-founder of Internationales Forum des Jungen Films and founded the film company Edition Manfred Salzgeber.
Salzgeber was born in Lodz 1943. Openly gay, he was an important LGBT activist in Germany.[1] Together with Wieland Speck, he worked for LGBT themes in German film.
In 1970, Salzgeber acted in the film It's Not the Homosexual Who is Perverse, but the Situation in Which He Lives (Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers, sondern die Situation, in der er lebt) by Rosa von Praunheim. This film had a fundamental influence on German LGBT activism and society. During his whole lifetime, Salzgeber promoted LGBT films. Together with Wieland Speck he founded 1987 the Teddy Award in Berlin. This award is the oldest international award in LGBT films. In 1985 Salzgeber started his film company Edition Manfred Salzgeber. The company is still active in Berlin. Salzgeber died on 12 August, 1994 of complications due to AIDS.
