Coordinates: Mandya (Kannada: ಮಂಡ್ಯ)is a city in Mandya District in Karnataka state of India. Mandya is 40 km from Mysore and 100 km from Bangalore.
The name comes from a sage Maandavya. Hence it is also called Maandavya Nagara. Mandya is known for the "Gowda" community of people from the Vokkaliga Hindu religion. There is also a sect in Ayyangar Brahmins called Mandyam Ayyangars who are said to hail from Mandya.

Mandya is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 678 metres (2224 feet).
The district is home to the famous Brindavan Gardens, at the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir, The Shivana Samudram waterfalls with their hydroelectricity generation plant (first hydroelectric plant in Asia), Srirangapatna (capital city of Tipu Sultan), and the Melukote temple. The Cauvery River is the main water source of Mandya, through the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir. Rice and sugarcane are the main crops.

As of 2001 India census[2], Mandya had a population of 131,211. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Mandya has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 68%. In Mandya, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Mandya city is also place Peoples Education Society College of Engineering popularly known as PESCE one of the top engineering college in the region. It also houses lush green cricket stadium of international standards. Karnataka government also started a medical college recently in Mandya. It was one of the first by Karnataka government in decades.
Keonics computer center an Government of Karnataka organization is providing Computer Education for rural and unemployed youth at lower price.

The Mysore Sugar Company Ltd.) is located in the heart of Mandya City. It is one of the oldest sugar factories to be setup in Karnataka. It has a processing capacity of 5,000 tons of cane per day and was established 1933-1934[3].
The headquarters of the company is in Bangalore.
