Thanks to the support of her older brother, Lewis (Ben Hull), Mandy finds the strength to take a stand against her father and he is sentenced to seven years in prison.

Mandy’s life slowly returns to normal and she gets together with Luke Morgan, but tragedy strikes the relationship when Luke is viciously raped by Mark Gibbs; Luke cannot bring himself to tell her what happened, and withdraws from the relationship. After finishing with Luke, Mandy briefly finds solace in Darren Osborne. Mandy then begins a relationship with Ben Davies, Luke's best friend. However the two split when Ben accuses Mandy of being controlling. While Mandy and Ben are together, Luke realised he still loves Mandy and longs for a second chance. Upon finding out that Luke had been raped, Mandy offers him her support and helps him get over his ordeal.

Mandy soon rebuilds her relationship with her mother, while Mandy’s soulmate Luke had moved to Canada.
[edit] The Crash
On New Year’s 2001, Mandy has a one night stand with Jamie Nash at the Morgan’s house. Luke's brother Adam had enough of Mandy’s behaviour to his family and sits in her car, refusing to move. Mandy loses control of the car, and falls of a cliff and lands near a railway. Mandy survives with a few cuts and bruises, while Adam is paralyzed.

Mandy ends up sleeping with Luke, but Luke and Adam are both devastated to hear that Mandy is double-crossing the pair. Adam dumps Mandy, while Luke washes his hands of her.

Mandy turns to the support of her friend Laura Burns, who wants to get away from Hollyoaks and decides to go Cape Town. She asks Mandy to come with her but Mandy feels suspicious and tries to leave the flat, but Laura reacts by hitting her on the head with a glass bottle. Laura locks Mandy and herself in Mandy’s flat and attempts to poison Mandy, but Mandy is rescued by her step brother Max Cunningham, Tony Hutchinson, Becca Hayton, Adam Morgan, and Laura's brother Brendan Shepard.
Mandy is taken to a hospital, while Laura is taken to a mental institution. Mandy later finds out that Laura’s real name is Kerry Shepard, and that she had been severely traumatised when her childhood best friend died when they were 11.
[edit] Unfinished Business
In 2003, Mandy discovers her mother is having an affair with Tony, and that her father, who is dying of cancer, is being released from prison. After Dennis' release, Mandy confronts him and refuses to forgive him. She goes out and brings him some alcohol to quicken his death, telling him she could never forgive him; he eventually dies of liver disease. Mandy pours his ashes in the drain.
[edit] Relationship with Tony Hutchinson
Mandy begins to rebuild her life, but first has to deal with step brother Max’s crush on her. She turns to Tony Hutchinson (who promised her late brother Lewis he'd look after Mandy) for support, and the pair end up together. However, the relationship faces many tests along the way; Tony cheats on Mandy with Ruth Osborne, and Mandy also cheats on Tony with Ben Davies.

The neighbours hear the fight and call the police, who assume Tony was the one abusing Mandy. The village soon turns against Tony, but Mandy publicly confesses having been the abuser. Mandy seeks counselling and finally realises that Tony is the one she had wanted; she follows him to Rome, where she tries to convince him that she still loves him. The pair end up in each others' arms and get married in Rome.

[edit] A new life
After one last emotional goodbye to husband Tony, Mandy tells him that she could no longer live in Hollyoaks after so many bad memories and needs a fresh start. Tony reluctantly decides to let her go.
[edit] Return For Becca's Funeral
Mandy returns briefly in February 2007 for the funeral of Becca Dean in which Nancy Hayton begins an argument. She tells Tony she is now working as a corporate party planner, that she is pregnant and in a serious relationship with a man named Mark. She then sends him a letter telling him she had given birth a little girl, Ella.
Mandy is mentioned again in December 2007 when Steph Dean says Max has gone to visit her for the holidays.
