Operated by the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan, the Mandarin Training Center (國語教學中心) is one of the world's oldest and most distinguished programs for Chinese language study. The center was known as the Center for Chinese Language and Cultural Studies for a short period of time .

The Mandarin Training Center (MTC) was founded in 1956. The program attracts students from all parts of the world to Taiwan to study Mandarin Chinese language and literature; they also have access to courses in calligraphy, martial arts, and traditional music and theater. Courses are offered in three-month quarterly terms throughout the year. This system enables international students to engage in intensive language study during their summer breaks and within single semesters. The MTC sponsors travel, hosts speech contests, and stages workshops and performances featuring a variety of East Asian traditions.

Over a thousand students from over sixty countries, including the U.S., Canada, Japan, Korea, Germany, Spain, France, the U.K., Malaysia, Indonesia, and many Central and South American countries, enroll each year in the Mandarin Training Center. Their presence makes the Shida area of Taipei one of the city's most cosmopolitan. The center's alumni association, the MTCAA, has been in existence since 1998.[1]
