Not to be confused with Greater Manchester.
The Manchester City Region is an area of England centred on Manchester. It was one of eight city regions defined in the 2004 document Moving Forward: The Northern Way,[1] as a collaboration between the three northern Regional Development Agencies.
The Manchester City Region encompasses fifteen local government districts: it includes the cities of Manchester and Salford plus the adjoining metropolitan boroughs of Stockport, Tameside and Trafford to the south and Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Wigan to the north, together with High Peak, Congleton, Macclesfield, Vale Royal and Warrington.[2]
