Manado International School (MIS) is a private Christian institution which provides quality education from Kindergarten (K1) all the way through to Senior High School (Grade 12). All sections of MIS; Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle and High School are accredited by the Badan Akreditasi Sekolah Nasional of Indonesia, with an “A” (excellent) classification and has been categorized by the National Education Department as a school of international standard (Sekolah Berstandar Internasional)

Manado International School (MIS) is located at Kolongan village (Minahasa district, North Sulawesi Province) about 12 km. east of Manado and 30 km. west of Bitung. Amid tranquil residential coconut palms yet close to shopping centers and the international airport for students to come from abroad as well as from within Indonesia.

These shapes symbolize:

The Book symbolizes the Bible as the foundation (Proverbs 2:20). It reminds us that the Bible is the source of knowledge and wisdom.

The Globe symbolizes the quality of education, which is of international standard.

The Flame symbolizes the students that graduate from MIS which have a good influence on others and as for the the red triangle, symbolizes torch handle, where we hope the good influence can be passed on to other people.

The Blue Triangle symbolizes our relation with God and other people.

In harmony with its vision and mission, MIS has specific goals. It aims to prepare young people who, by the time they graduate, shall have:

  • Adopted a life-style characterized by kindness, patience, unselfishness, honesty, humility, and love for all people regardless of their nationality, social origin, and religious beliefs.
  • Formed habits of critical and constructive thinking resulting in the ability to express ideas effectively. To make wise choices and sound judgments and to apply appropriate theoretical knowledge to the practical problems of life.

  • Developed appreciation for literature, music culture and fine arts.

For in-depth teaching and learning environment, MIS provides:

  • English as the medium of instruction in all on-campus linguistic interaction.
  • Personalized classes with a maximum of 20 students
  • Accident and life insurance coverage for each student.
  • School buses to cover limited routes with designated pick-up and drop-off points.
  • Showers for use after classes.

For a conducive-to-learning experience, students will be equipped with the following facilities:

  • Air-conditioned classrooms, music room, science laboratories, and a computer laboratory equipped with internet access, intranet connections and language teaching facilities.
  • Outdoor facilities include swimming pool, playground, adventure and sports field, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts.
  • A gymnasium that provides space for badminton, table tennis, aerobics and fitness center.
  • Full service cafeteria
  • School clinic staffed with an experienced, registered nurse and an on-call doctor.

[edit] Curriculum

Manado International School integrates both the National Curriculum and an International Curriculum, namely American. English is used as the medium of instruction for all classes except for Indonesian and Mandarin. The Kindergarten (Early Childhood Program) uses the Developmental Approach, which focuses on the individual growth of each child and also uses English as the medium of instruction. After class hours, the following extracurricular activities are provided: English tutorial classes especially for English as a Second Language (ESL) students, computer sessions, a range of indoor and outdoor sports, choral activities and special lessons in voice and a range of musical instruments. All graduating students of Grade 6, 9 and 12 receive an MIS Diploma of Study from MIS International standard exams, as well as choosing to take the National Examinations as a prerequisite to study in other Indonesia schools and universities.

The ultimate goal of Manado International School is to assist and facilitate students in attaining a high standard of educational excellence, religious and moral values and emotional strength. To achieve this goal, MIS employs an experienced and well-qualified teaching staff from Australia, Germany, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America who are fully dedicated to serving the institution of MIS.

MIS is committed to providing the following facilities and equipment to enhance students learning:

  • New sport center that will house the basketball court, badminton court, volleyball court, tennis court and table tennis area (olympic standard) which are using the very best floor materials, Taraflex by Gerflor (France)
  • New children’s playground to be installed at the center of the school grounds.
  • Additional physics and biology laboratory equipment to complete what the school has at present.
  • A larger collection of books and a better check-out system – an automated library, if possible.
  • Additional school buses to improve the efficiency of the transportation service.
  • MIS Hall of Residence for grade 7 – 12 students (Boys & Girls)
