[edit] Fictional Character Biography

[edit] Origin

Ted Taylor was the stereotypical playboy; handsome, athletic, popular, and incredibly shallow. He loved fast cars, fast women, and fast living. That all changed when he was struck by a bolt of energy while driving. This accident caused him to be imbued with a large and unstable concentration of Energy X. The power coursing through his body was so immense and so unstable that it would frequently discharge in a massive energy explosion. He rushed to see his "egghead" brother Tom ,a Nobel prize winning scientist, who offered Ted a solution. Tom had been working on developing a powered exo-suit that would provide mobility to the disabled. Tom modified the suit to feed on the Energy X stored in Ted's body, siphoning excess energy from his body to power the suit. The one catch was that Ted would have to wear the suit constantly until Tom was able to find a cure for his condition. Ted resisted the idea of being bound up in such an ugly contraption. While Ted protested his brother's temporary solution, a powerful surge of energy exploded out of his body, killing his brother in the blast. Wracked by guilt, Ted donned the suit and vowed to redeem his superficial life and his brother's death by protecting the innocent as The Man-Bot.

[edit] Joining Freedom Force

Man-Bot became the fourth member of Freedom Force during their first battle with Nuclear Winter, after Winter had stolen a nuclear bomb from a US Naval base. Man-Bot had attempted to stop the frigid fiend as he escaped across the artificially frozen with the bomb. Winter escaped after freezing Man-Bot inside a block of ice. He remained trapped in his frozen prison until Mentor sensed the mind of another Energy X power being. Mentor used his telepathy to lead Minuteman and El Diablo to Man-Bot's location, where they freed him from the ice that he had been trapped in. Upon meeting the trio of super-powered heroes, Man-Bot agreed to join them in stopping Nuclear Winter's nefarious plot. Together the four heroes defeated Winter before he could activate the bomb and destroy Patriot City.

[edit] Powers

The bolt of Energy X that struck Ted Taylor caused his body to act as a sort of living battery, generating Energy X internally, as well as absorbing energy from the environment around him. Man-Bot is able to project beams of pure Energy X, charge inanimate objects with Energy X until they become unstable and explosive, leech energy from others, and, transfer Energy X into their body, temporarily increasing their powers. These tremendous powers are not without their drawbacks. Energy X builds up inside Ted Taylor's body until the levels become too big to control or until he is exposed to physical or mental stress, and then the energy is released from his body in a violent explosion. The suit created by Man-Bot's late brother, Tom, helps him to control these explosions by siphoning Energy X from Ted's body to power the suit and bleeding off the excess, even allowing Man-Bot to release violent Energy X explosions on command.

Man-Bot's suit also provides him with enhanced physical abilities. The armor gives Man-Bot incredible strength and grants him increased protection from harm. The suit is also fitted with thrusters in its feet which allow Man-Bot to fly.
