[edit] Repost of Swapatino

After prod-tagging this article as a joke/hoax, I noticed that you'd speedied it early as nonsense. While the current version is much expanded from the original, the joke is essentially the same. I wanted to get your second opinion if it is still speedy-able. OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:50, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

I say it is absolutely speed-able. The creator is clever enough to make the article long and drawn out. But there is still nothing there. It is an elaborate joke, With 0 google results. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 02:54, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for reverting my talk page and blocking the IP who vandalized it (after I'd issued a warning). — ERcheck (talk) 04:05, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Think nothing of it. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Ditto! Thankyou for reverting the vandalism on my user page! Unreal editing job! Drakonicon 16:22, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Can IPs edit their talk pages when blocked? User:141.157.22.138 put some angry comments on his/her talk page. — ERcheck (talk) 06:30, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Acutually users can edit their own userpages when blocked. I have removed their racist and vulgar comments for now. If it continues, then I will protect the userpage to prevent it happening again. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 14:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. Looks "quiet" for now. — ERcheck (talk) 00:29, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey Malo

You deleted Eon8 5 days ago, and got a ton of grumpy complaints, and some vandalism. I delete it after the second AFD yesterday, and get pretty much nothing, except a polite DRV discussion. I think that says something about how long these memes are actually important to people for. Or about how short YTMND trolls' attention spans are :) Just an observation. Take it easy. Proto///type 06:19, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Proto, I appreciate you stopping by, as well as the fact that you came to the same conclusion as I did regarding that AfD, especially despite the heavy amounts of meat puppetry. Perhaps I should have just allowed the first AfD to run its full course. But after the site launch where it displayed the fact that the goal was to watch people speculate given little information, I had a very strong feeling against letting individuals use wikipedia for such purposes. After numerous complaints I thought it best to just walk away from the subject. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 14:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks.

Thanks for reverting crap vandalism on my userpage. — Nathan (talk) / 07:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

It is no big deal, you're welcome. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 14:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] fair use images on your userpage

I am concerned that you are using fair use images on your userpage. The terms of the use of Image:Doctor Zoidberg.png, Image:Homestar Runner.png, and Image:Texas.gif prevent them from being used anywhere except the article in question, and particularly not on userpages. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy and Wikipedia:Removal of fair use images for more information. I'd ask that you please remove these images yourself, as I do not wish to disturb your userpage/userboxes. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 00:46, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Also Image:The Secret of Monkey Island.png is a fair use image too. So the same applies for it as well. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 00:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Good point, I hadn't thought about copyright issues on userboxes. I'll modify my user page accordingly. Thanks! - Runch 03:57, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] about the armking vandal

ive noticed he has been back latly perhaps you should add him to the long term abuse page?if that isnt warranted yet id apprecicate it if you would at least clear up that armcheeseh and armhaed be added to the possible sock puppet list ive observed they use similar teqniuques to cause havoc on wikipedia. Not tomention the naming pattern matches up. I feel obligated to point this out to you as i am a concerned wikicitizen. -Micheal Mathews 207.69.137.13 14:34, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't believe in adding sock accounts to such long term abusive vandals. They will only look upon them as if they were proud trophies of ignorance and immaturity. It is quite clear just who is who, and I think long term is already aware of their vandalous actions. Thanks anyways for your concern. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 22:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Username

Hi, I found a user who has a name that I feel totally violates Wiki policy. Where do I go to deal with this? I noticed you seem to know about this particular subject. TruthCrusader 20:46, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Smooth, this is no way to settle an argument between two users who have a difference of an opinion elsewhere on Wikipedia. Don't worry about it Malo, the matter has been solved. — The King of Kings 20:58 July 07 '06
I am curious as to just what this is all about. There are certain guidelines that should be followed, but given other comments, I wonder what exactly is your motivation? -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 22:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Not sure who you are asking, but I guess I'll respond. We were having a discussion about his conduct at an RFA (asking about every oppose vote). When he saw my signature, I guess he came here to tell you. He thought my signature was a religious reference, but it's not, its a reference to King of Kings (song). I told this to him and hopefully now we have an understanding. — The King of Kings 22:56 July 07 '06
Ah, I see. Thank you for the explanation. I don't really see the sig/username "king of kings" as being against username guidelines. However I admit that even I find it confusing when users sign as something other than their wikipedia usernames, but that is by no means grounds for blocking, in my opinion. At the same time I am somewhat perturbed, by the username "TruthCrusader", mostly because wikipedia seeks verifiability, not truth. And I think it seems to be a common misconception that we here are seeking only the truth. Not to judge either of you for your usernames, as certainly mine may be interpreted as "evil" in spanish, to which I assure you all that I am not. :) Maybe I'm just rambling at this point, but I suppose our actions here will speak more about us than our usernames ever could. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 23:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IP block question

Is it against Wikipedia policy to permanently block IP addresses? User:81.106.113.61 (death threats, blatant vandalism, mean in general) seems to be a static IP address. User clearly plans to continue vandalizing, so I was wondering if blocking IP addresses permanently is allowed or if there's too much of a chance of collateral damage (eg. that IP address gets re-assigned)? Thanks! Wickethewok 23:52, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

You pretty much understand the basics. It isn't common for an IP to be permanetly block for vandalism, just for the sake of the potential of collateral damage. However, if this user does continue, the blocks will get longer and longer with each offense. Which in effect will remove the vandal from the situation for longer periods of time. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 00:30, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the info, Malo.  :) Wickethewok 03:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for (at least) temporarily blocking User:66.82.9.81. After all the issues I have seen him cause and the history of warnings he has been given, someone put their foot down. Thank you. I know this isn't a question but I found it wasn't quite worth starting another section and it fit closely in here. --WatashiNoAiken 22:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Pilotguy1990

I assume you blocked this user as a result of his similarity to User:Pilotguy? I'm a little concerned that he may not realize this. I think an actual explanation, rather than a generic template that does not say exactly what the problem is, would probably serve better, don't you? I don't mean to be a pain, I just noticed it and it confused me for a moment, and I feared that he may now feel intimidated or confused.

If you have reason to believe otherwise, though, naturally ignore this. - Che Nuevara: Join the Revolution 21:25, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I agree with the statement that trying to explain things in your own words often works better than using templates. However, I am unable to tell if this is a genuine user that would like to contribute, or if it is a vandal that thinks that they are being funny by creating an imposter account. Since I cannot tell, I feel that the template best serves my intention. This way the user can read about the still learn how and why this username was blocked. In addition I am watching the userpage so if that user has questions about it I will answer them. However I really don't want to waste time writing out an explanation and have it turn out to be a vandal or a troll. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 21:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Alrighty. I was just curious about your take on it. Thanks. - Che Nuevara: Join the Revolution 06:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey Malo

You dont own wikipedia so please stop reverting my edits at will; if you have a personal problem with me, thats fine; but this is wikipedia, not malopedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.127.112.78 (talkcontribs) 10:59, 12 July 2006

You are right, this isn't malopedia. I have no personal problem with you, however some, if not all of your edits are vandalism. Please do not continue to make such edits, or you may be blocked. Thank you. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 13:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BlueHippo.jpg

Malo,

I was just as shocked and outraged as you are. Firstly that BlueHippo would sponsor a hateful anti-semetic website like JewsDidWTC.com and secondly that they would use the word nigger in one of their advertisements. However, I'm not sure why you deleted it, I think it's important that the world can see the racial prejudices of this company. So they can make informed decisions before doing business with them.

--The Mad Bomber (talk) 06:11, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I think it is quite obvious that the website you took that from, is a mockery site. They clearly took the bluehippo, and created their own image to present their POV, through the strong usage of the "n-word" in order to shock users into recongnizing these questionable business tactics. Evenso, that image should not be on wikipedia. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 06:16, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
How could they use the BlueHippo trademark if they do not have rights to it? Wouldn't their image editing software reckognize the trademark and stop them?
--The Mad Bomber (talk) 19:50, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Imaging software doesn't quite work in that manner. And other websites do not feel the need to adhere to some of the more strict image rights guidelines that wikipedia must. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 20:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Hey Malo

The IP address that I am using is also shared by other people who use this computer, and, unbeknownst to me may or may not have "vandalized" certain articles (I am sure your definition of vandalism on wikipedia is anything that doesn't neatly conform to your view or opinion on a particular topic, or simply any addition that may slightly stray from your perception of what is factual and worth documenting). I am not trying to start a riff with you, but I am also not going to sit idly by and have you verify every single thing I write; I don't need a babysitter, just as I'm sure you don't need any more problems with wikipedia. Whether wikipedia is a valuable and accurate tool or a waste of cyberspace depends solely on the people who tend to it, not unlike a farmer who tends to his crops.

You are a valuable wikipedian and someone who seems dedicated to helping this encyclopedia fulfill its ever-expanding potential. I just want you to understand that I, too, am ready to be a wiki-martyr.

My email is: krandel-1664àhotmail.com

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.127.112.78 (talkcontribs)

My definition of vandalism comes from Wikipedia:Vandalism and at the very least the first three edits from Special:Contributions/82.127.112.78, look like vandalism to me. That is why this warning was given. And if you review further such edits as this one you will see that vandalism does comes from this address. I am not sure I understand what your intention of the term wiki-martyr is though. As to the best of my knowledge no one is dying for a cause here. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 20:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I think the sarcasm that was intended by the term ´wikimartyr´was pretty obvious, Malo. You´re right, no one is dying for the cause; but some of us are dying of your wikibullshit and unfair treatment of almost every new user. Keep it up and I will see to it that you are permanently banned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.143.212.42 (talkcontribs) 14:27, 17 July 2006

I'm the first to admit, I don't always catch sarcasm when it happens. However I am trying to help out those users that are genuinely trying to contribute to the encyclopedia. Unfortunately there are a great deal of vandals and disruptive users that look at wikipedia as a game. This is serious to me. As for your claims, there are literally thousands of new user accounts created every day. I don't see how I could unfairly treat so many users daily. Obviously, I must have I offended you or blocked you in the past somewhere. Can you cite specific actions or edits by me which are, as you call it "wikibullshit"? If so I ask that you please point it out to me on a case by case basis and allow me the ability to justify my actions. If not, then you're wasting everyone's time with unfounded accusations. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 20:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My change removed...why?

Out of curiosity, why did you remove the addition I placed on the 1996 page last night referring to the launching of indieWIRE? It's a legitimate news service and has a listing on Wikipedia. I am certain much smaller and less significant events are listed. I mean, I understand that Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are famous, but... :-) --IWRabbi 22:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion, I didn't see the launch of this news service as being as notable as say, any of the other events there, (ie. plane crashes, Canada's greatest natural disaster, or Dolly the sheep.) Also this being your first edit, I was suspicious of your username beginning with IW, I was wondering, are you associated directly with indieWIRE? Because if you are, it might be difficult for you to maintain a neutral point of view in regards to the importance and notability of such an organisation. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 22:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
As a matter of fact, yes, I am the co-founder of indieWIRE.com but am no longer involved. However, I humbly submit that indieWIRE's launch and it's continued existance as the only news service covering the world of independent film is at least as important as the Hill-McGraw wedding and a lunar eclipse, the latter of which is pretty common. If you're interested, there's a page to check out iW's history as well as quotes from industry notables and publications including Roger Ebert, Vanity Fair, Forbes, the director of the Sundance Film Festival and Variety. :-) http://indiewire.com/about/ Best, --IWRabbi 22:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

Thanks, Malo--much appreciated. Likewise, thank you for your help in fighting the vandal to which you may be referring (that's who is wasting our time over the elitism article -- he "plays" both sides, trying to delete it, and trying to get it peer reviewed -- this kid thinks Wikipedia is a kind of giant role-playing game). Happy editing, Antandrus (talk) 16:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

While I appreciate all of your efforts and I have noticed you around wikipedia for some time, I was happy to give you a barnstar for blocking an imposter of me MaIo (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log) (where the "L" in my name, was substituted for a "I".) But yes also this NCV vandal is rather a bother, Thank you for your help there too. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 16:41, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

How about User:Hubert the Hippo while you're at it? :) —Caesura(t) 21:16, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Well the vandal seems to be creating new accounts, hence we are having to block each account as it appears. So far all of the accounts mentioned here as well as a few more are already blocked. Thanks for your help, both of you. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 21:19, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Hey Malo,

Completely missed that "stark" was a redirect from USS Stark FFG-31.
Thanks -

Thaimoss 21:14, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

No problem, that really isn't that big of deal, as users would still get to the same article via that redirect. I was more concerned with italicizing the ship name like so [[USS Stark (FFG-31)|USS ''Stark'' (FFG-31)]] So that is appears as USS Stark (FFG-31). But even that is more of a minor formatting detail. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 21:31, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 3bulletproof16‎

First thanks for the unblock

Ok was he punished? I have never recieved a apology from him. I updated the page we were editing I used the talk page to discuss the change tha I made. I went ahead and sent him the guidelines as well it appears he needs to get a refresher course. I just want to let you know that I sent that to him.

Once again thanks.--TheTruth2 16:02, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I am trying to avoid any undue punishment at this stage. I fear it would only make the situation worse. Since I initially considered your edits vandalism, WP:3RR does not apply. I have left a message on this user's talk page regarding this incidient, and I have asked him/her to use talk pages and remain civil with each other. However for future reference, I consider both parties to be fully aware of the definition of vandalism and the policy of WP:3RR. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 19:16, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I want to alert you now he has someone else messing with the page. I put it on the discussion page that the 3 revert rule will be violated if edited again.--TheTruth2 19:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

TJ Spyke is messing with the page and I have been civil to him. I am telling him to leave it alone. 3 revert rule.--TheTruth2 19:51, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Update: TJ and I are discussing the changes civally. 3bullet16 for some reason reported not knowing what has been disussed. Please advise him again.--TheTruth2 20:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

TJ and I are Ok But Bullet has some problem I submited this to him http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:3bulletproof16&oldid=66030059 He just does not want to be cival.--TheTruth2 20:45, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Update: Bullet reported me 3rr. I have warned him and reported him. TJ and I are ok I have enclosed this to show you Notable points, not an entire paragraph. I will try to summarize it. The whole point is to tell people the results of the page. There are websites devoted to going into detail on matches. TJ Spyke 20:08, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

--TheTruth2 21:07, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Try to calm down and take this slowly. You might want to cool off on making drastic changes until this issue is resolved. Also don't be in a big rush to have everything changed the way you see fit, immediately. It seems clear that some other individuals may disagree with your additions. So please, for now, stop such additions, and allow some other users to become involved so that we can come to a consensus on whether or not such additions should or should not be included. Don't expect instant results, and try to keep a cool head. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 21:28, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

It was only one paragraph that is it nothing more nothing less.I have stopped even before he warned me and after TJ and I discussed thie.I warned him of the 3rr rule and reported and he then deleted it. If you could calm him down that would be great. I am only offering suggestions now on hwo to improve it.--TheTruth2 21:57, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I find it strange that when he is referred to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling show formatting or any other guideline for that matter, he claims that he has already read them and that his edits "still follows the guidelines". All text in the article before TheTruth2's contributions followed the guidelines formed by Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling. Yet for some strange reason he continues to ignore the already formed consensus. --3bulletproof16 22:15, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

When writing results, the match result should be in bold, followed by a second point (**) on any notable points in the match. If there are no notbale points, refer to point 2 e.g. Shawn Michaels def. Kurt Angle (26:09) HBK pinned Angle after Sweet Chin Music

And there were notable points that I was adding.--TheTruth2 22:19, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
