Can't Log In
On my home computer (I'm using a public one right now using my public computer sock. My main is User:Malinaccier), I can't log in. I type the password in and everything works fine, but the page won't fully load telling me that I've signed in. All the rest of the Wikipedia pages also freeze. Please respond here for now Thanks! •Malinaccier Public• T/C 13:29, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- What OS/browser config are you using? Did it work before? Did you change anything (update browser etc.)? Do other websites load and display correctly? It sounds like a problem with your OS/browser setup. I checked User:Malinaccier/monobook.css and User:Malinaccier/monobook.js, but they're empty, so it's not related to anything Mediawiki-side you might have changed within your account. — Dorftrottel 13:38, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Are you using other internet applications parallel with your browser, e.g. a torrent client? I usually have problems browsing (on all websites) when torrent is loading, because it spams my router with requests. — Dorftrottel 13:43, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- You may want to try a different browser, to see if the problem lies with your standard browser. See e.g. Portable Firefox, which doesn't even need to be installed on the system to be fully working. — Dorftrottel 13:48, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

- Ok. So is it working properly now? — Dorftrottel 18:12, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, but what I had to do was log in using a link to a "specifically secure" page, and it asks me every time I load a page whether I wish to display nonsecure items. Thanks for your help! Malinaccier (talk • contribs) 22:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

- Hum. So the secure server appears to work for you. The browser message regarding non-secure pages should be possible to disable. Still weird that the regular server(s) don't work like they should. Have you tried another browser? If not, that's still the most promising lead I can recommend right now. If the problem persists, you may want to ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). — Dorftrottel 02:17, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Do you know how to disable the message? •Malinaccier Public• T/C 13:13, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Depends on which browser you're using. In Firefox, in the settings, "security" tab, there's a field that says "warning messages" (or some such, I'm using the German language version). There you can activate/deactivate what kind of warnings you would like to receive. In the internet options of Internet Explorer, there's a similar "security" tab with all sorts of options. — Dorftrottel 13:24, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm on a public computer, but I will try it. Thanks!!! •Malinaccier Public• T/C 13:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome. At any rate, when you're at your own computer, I strongly recommend using Firefox. — Dorftrottel 13:27, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

RfA thanks
An Administrator is I!
Adventurer! The Council has identified a number of strange occurrences (such as "vandals" and "articles for deletion") in the surrounding wilderness. The Council would check it out, but they have important Councily-type things. But never fear: brave adventurers known as "sysops" roam the lands!
Thank you for your support in my quest to become a sysop. Although I am now wielding the keys to my very own Bitchin' Meatcar, I promise to uphold the laws of the land, martini in hand, in a way that would make Saint Sneaky Pete proud. I will do my best to be a Jack of Several Trades (although I may be a Master of Nuns). I promise to Heart Canadia. And I will make it my goal to Make War, Not ... er, Wait, Never Mind.
I am glad to serve my guild, the League of Wikipedians. If I can be of any assistance, or you have any questions, suggestions, or criticisms in the future, please let me know. And if you are at a loss for what any of the above actually means, see this website.
Thanks again.
