Emma Goldman dates
Thanks for fixing the dates on the Emma Goldman books. I was adding various things from various sources and not concentrating like I should have been. My rewrite of the article will be much more thorough, I can assure you. Cheers. – Scartol • Tok 15:02, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- The sections I started on her philosophy were meant as mere placeholders, to last in their current form not more than a couple of weeks or so. I messed up with the bit about voting rights (I based it on the title of her essay "Women's Suffrage", and I guess I mischaracterized it; I haven't read the essay itself yet), so thanks for fixing that. I'll soon go through and flesh out those sections (as I've done for her family and childhood.) Thanks for keeping me honest. – Scartol • Tok 18:08, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Re: Malcolm's contribution
Is this the right place to reply? First off, ty v much for replying. Next, yeah that's a good argument. However, I've always struggled to see why Ossie Davis said that Malcolm would be proud to call himself an African-American. Yes, I agree that Malcolm became disgusted with the term Negro but he was proud to be an African, not an American right? After all he famously said "We didn't land on Plymouth Rock. The Rock landed on us!" and on 3 April 1964: 'No, I'm not an American. I'm one of the 22 million black people who are the victims of Americanism' (at Cory Methodist Church)
Heh I know I'm arguing against your excellent quotation from an excellent speech (probably my favourite ever) and perhaps my understanding of the term African-American is flawed. I think his major contribution was perhaps his political input even if he did say in B or the B: "I am not a politician" or something like that. The trouble is, historians find it much easier to credit MLK rather than Malcolm (heh which reminds me: your first name is excellent for a supporter of both because MLK looks like someone texting Malik!). Is there a way to get around this problem? I read an article claiming Malcolm was the major contributor to the voting rights act, but didn't show any evidence other than that he was around! Thanks again! --AYBGerrardo (talk) 13:58, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to look over the article and copy edit, wikify, etc. If you have other ideas of how the article could be expanded/improved, I hope you will consider either being bold or at least raising them to the talk page. Reconstructionist Judaism
Hi! Thanks for your help with User:Franksforsale's edits. Just a note that the recommended warning for this sort of situation is {{uw-npov2}}, which warns about a violation of the WP:NPOV policy. Numbers for these warnings go from 1 to 4 and repeat violation after warning leads to blocking just like the vandalism warnings. Technically, what this user is doing isn't vandalism because he or she probably believes that making the article reflect this POV is being helpful rather than disruptive to the encyclopedia, whereas vandalism requires an intent to disrupt. Would recommend describing these cases as WP:NPOV violations rather than vandalism in the revert summary as well. Thanks!! Best, --Shirahadasha (talk) 06:21, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Malcolm X vs. Richard Girnt Butler
You have an image of Mr.Malcolm X, and have named your account after him, because he inspired you. However, I feel it appropriate to draw to your attention the fact that he is a documented extreme racist, referring to White people as inherent Devils.
I do not think that wikipedia would stand for a user honouring a person who called Black people animals or Devils, so perhaps you could consider changing the introduction on your userpage.
Thank you,
86.27.128.183 (talk) 10:38, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing your concerns about Malcolm X and his racist denunciation of "white devils". I specifically chose "Malik Shabazz" as my Username because that is the name Malcolm adopted after he left the Nation of Islam and abandoned its racist ideology. In 1964, after his conversion to orthodox Islam and his pilgrimage to Mecca, Malcolm said:
-
- In the past, yes, I have made sweeping indictments of all white people. I never will be guilty of that again — as I know now that some white people are truly sincere, that some truly are capable of being brotherly toward a Black man. The true Islam has shown me that a blanket indictment of all white people is as wrong as when whites make blanket indictments against Blacks.
- Subsequently, in an interview with his friend Gordon Parks, Malcolm said:
-
- I did many things as a [Black] Muslim that I'm sorry for now. I was a zombie then — like all [Black] Muslims — I was hypnotized, pointed in a certain direction and told to march. Well, I guess a man's entitled to make a fool of himself if he's ready to pay the cost. It cost me 12 years. That was a bad scene, brother. The sickness and madness of those days — I'm glad to be free of them.
- It is that person whom I seek to honor by my Username. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 21:58, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Of course it should be stated that Malcolm was never really a racist, though, even before the Hajj. The image of inverse racism placed upon him was the manifestation, or at least massive exaggeration, of the white press. Malcolm's comments on the "white devil" were mainly intended to be regarded in a historical context, where repeatedly throughout history the white man has exploited other races. Besides, the white man (myself included) had and has absolutely no right to tell any black man how he should acquire his freedom or what he should think. I personally think Malik has chosen a fantastic username. I would be more offended if he had chosen Martin Luther King! If you're surprised I said that, you might have perhaps accepted widespread opinion too readily. I would reccommend you read anything of depth on Martin and Malcolm, whether positive or negative and come to your own conclusion. --AYBGerrardo (talk) 19:31, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
P-Funk
Just because James Brown or the Jb's recorded some members of p-funk does not mean they belong in the template. Templates are used to navigate between articles which are intrinsically linked, not linked in any way. Articles in red can be in the template once they're created, but until then their existance is unknown, they are unsourced. I'm just trying to simplify that huge awkward template and improve the p-funk world on wiki. Your edits will discourage progress.Cosprings (talk) 23:30, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi again
I saw that you had recently edited the Slavery in the US, and wanted to let you know that I removed an unsourced claim about Sally and Thomas Jefferson. If this is problematic, I know that we can work it out in the talk page. My understanding is that this has not been definitively established, and that mainstream historians do not support this claim .Hope to see yo on the talk page. Cordially, . - Great. I have found this : http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query, which is a collection of the slave narratives collected by the federal government. I think some of the slaves personal recollections should be incorporated into the article. I will not proceed on that count without some discussion with you. There are some brutal accounts; however, the majority that I have read report kindly masters. read some with me and see what you think, and if anything is worthy of inclusion. I think the present article is not very balanced and that we would agree that as an institution it had little to recommend it. I just think there is some more information that readers of an encyclopedia should have access to Die4Dixie 00:22, 16 December 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Die4Dixie (talk • contribs)
thank for your thoughts, and I will keep them in mind as I edit. I didn't mean to imply your ownership of the article, but I have found that It always goes smoother for me if I am less bold and more conciliatory. :). Anyway , you were the only one I recognized. It will be a while, as I plan to read all of the narratives before doing any major work. Do not believe that I am advocating slavery as a panacea or believe that it was a wonderful institution.I just think the article is unbalanced in its present state.Die4Dixie (talk • contribs)

Hi
Thanks for your kindness. Yesterday I made some changes in wording to African American, just trying to improve the wording without changing the meaning in any way. Or that's what I had in mind. Someone reverted it without saying anything on his edit summary or on the talk page. Could you take a look at the history and see what you think? Thanks. Peace on Earth and goodwill to men. :-) Steve Dufour (talk) 03:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to thank you for all your help and support in making Emma Goldman a Featured Article. Huzzah! I'd also like to say that I think it really sucks that you've gotten so much Haterade™ in your time as a WP editor. What a shame that people don't know how to interact in a civil fashion. attentat
hi Malik Shabazz -- it looked like you had previously been assisting in the attentat redirection to propaganda of the deed, only to recently revert it to redirect to bomb. That's not what Talk:Propaganda of the deed says, so I'm a little confused? Is there a conversation I've missed? Because bomb does not seem correct based on either French or 19th century @ politics. --Lquilter (talk) 02:06, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

i apologize for having inappropriately changed images on Wikipedia. i had initially thought that i had changed the file name to be compatible, and did not realize that another image had been overwritten in the process. I did not receive any notification message about the fault until after the previous image had been erased, therefore i was unable to undo the process. i do not believe that the site is responsable for the delay in notification, but i believe that it was simply a complication with my contact system. i apologize again for the trouble and i appreciate you showing me the error. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TøM (talk • contribs) 10:46, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Nat Turner
Refute if it is wrong. Why erase a valid question? I have no idea why you felt the need to delete the question of Nat Turner's parentage. Very little is known about him, especially since historians, laypersons, and activists alike have hijacked his actions and put masks on him to defend their own causes. And at the same time, information has been supressed about him in order to unify his images as either entirely good or entirely bad with no grey area in between. Its not like I created a paragraph in the main article declaring that he was a mulatto and should be recognized as such. I asked a question that has been asked and studied by historians before. I was hoping for more information from other users to support or reject this claim. Either way, information about his parentage could only improve the overall article. Or if you have reliable sources to solidify his parentage, that would also be beneficial. Hell, refute my question in the discussion. Make me appear wrong, but to delete the question altogether doesn't make sense. 74.185.0.47 (talk) 14:12, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Help! I added a chart based on primary data from the US Census to the interracial marriage article. I think the length could be cut down. But I think the points are the most relevant from the article. AfD nomination of Caramel (porn star)
An editor has nominated Caramel (porn star), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Caramel (porn star) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:36, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Funk Edit
How was adding the New Funk Order to the funk article "vandalism"? I think they are a relevant addition to the funk community in recent years. Have you even heard them? They are a Prince spin-off organization. But, okay, if you are going to be that way, I won't add them at the peril of the genre. We need more funk artists included in the article because funk is dying. I think any artist additions to the article would be a positive thing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.123.14.65 (talk) 14:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Dysaethesia Aethiopica and Drapetomania
I read your comment on my user page. "Psychiatric disease" and "mental illness" are synonyms for the same thing. Some people also use the phrase "neuroatypicality." I feel that to pretend they are descriptions of different things hides the reality that psychiatry treated them both as forms of subjective sickness, illness in the mind. Furthermore, although Cartwright might not have described himself as a psychiatrist and only as a physician, he still was a psychiatrist, because he was a studier of the detriments of the mind.
I also did not notice that the phrase "psychiatric disease" was an exact citation from the source, because I did not see quotation marks, either single ('example') or double ("example"), around the phrase in either article. I do not know what the Wikipedian rule is for whether to place quotation marks around an exact citation that is also an internal link. Therefore, I assumed that the phrase was only an internal link and not an exact citation.
If you feel that the article should revert to before my edit, please do so. However, not knowing the rules about exact citations that are also internal links, I tentatively recommend that you include double quotation marks around the phrase to clearly show that it is an exact citation. Otherwise, readers might assume that it is merely a phrase a Wikipedian created as a inexact description of the phenomenon that Cartwright described.
I will admit that I have a cultural bias against general psychiatry. I am an antipsychiatrist and the fact that the term "psychiatric disease" seemed to be used as a euphemism for "mental illness" repulsed me. It repulsed me because it seems to ignore the fact that such diagnoses are still used for pseudoscientific discrimination. To not identify the link between "psychiatric disease" and "mental illness" ignores the fact that both concepts occur in the same alleged science. The method of diagnosis has changed somewhat since Cartwright, but, in my opinion, the belief system is still very similar to what it was then. My opinion is that psychiatric diagnosis is still majorly influenced by cultural bias, confirmation bias, and bias blind spot. In Cartwright's day, the cultural bias was that slavery was good and logical. In the present, the cultural bias is that overactive children have attention deficit disorder, that depressives have a neurochemical imbalance and not problems with the structure of society...similar to the way psychiatrists said a desire to escape slavery was a "psychiatric disease" and not a sign of a societal problem. After drapetomania, the new fad was the cultural bias that homosexuality was a sickness.
You be the judge. I am not an expert Wikipedian and I've just admitted my bias to you. But at least I try to be aware of my bias, unlike many psychiatrists.

New York Slave Insurrection of 1741
I have a problem with the title of this article. While I am not an expert, I haven't read any solid evidence the "insurrection" these people were put on trial for ever existed in reality.
