Talk:Mallet Assembly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The old page was deleted by User:Bumm13 for copyvio; specifically, much of the text was taken directly from mallet-assembly.org. In my opinion, the old page was also probably too long and too detailed. I think Mallet is big enough, interesting enough, and is known to enough people that it deserves a wikipedia entry. However, it's not as important as the AFL-CIO, and an article of that magnitude would probably have inherent NPOV problems. If you can some wikipedia precedents to the contrary, let me know.
There was also a problem of current Mallet members and even officers editing the page, which brings up definite vanity and NPOV problems, for the same reasons that George Bush probably shouldn't be editing his own entry. Guys, a wikipedia entry is not a mirror for your homepage. I suggest the wiki entry for Mallet be kept short and bland; readers desiring more info can follow the external link to your homepage, which is where you should be focusing your efforts.

I removed the neutrality template since I'm pretty sure the article is entirely written from a neutral point of view now. It still needs some work because some entries are date anchored to a certain time. Referring to something that happened in 1996 as 'recently' for example. - Hatch jahatcher@gmail.com
I'm still tryinng to get Judge Reinhold as a surprise guest speaker for MalletCon. It's not working. Also, I'm crap with computers. I'll see what I can do to update the page, though. Thanks for getting us started. --PW, current Mallet Historian
The reference to the only non-Machine president is incorrect. Not counting the period during WWII when most of the members of the Machine were away from campus, at least two other independents have been elected. The last one I'm personally familiar with, Jerry Devany (sp?), who was not a member of the Assembly, was elected in 1978. --Elytown 22:10, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notability
Do those references establish notability? We now have official webpages of the University (not pages controlled by the Mallet Assembly) that mention Mallet, as well as third party newspaper articles. --67.135.240.36 14:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
