I've removed Image:Malcolm Grant.jpg, as it's unfree. There should be no problem at all getting a photo of him - he's a recognizable, high-profile figure at a public institution - and as such this is easily replaceable; note the criteria that no free equivalent is available or could be created. There's certainly nothing remarkable about this image that means we have to use it to pass commentary on the photograph itself...

I've left the moustachless photo further down in the article, though - free though it is, it doesn't quite seem right to use it as the main image! Shimgray | talk | 13:17, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree that he is a high profile figure and if someone uploads a free image than all the better. However there isnt one available now and putting up an image required photo is not likely to get someone to wait outside his office in the vain effort of snapping a pic at him. I have been at UCL for three years and have NEVER seen the provost and I frequent the main building quite a bit! LordHarris 13:32, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
How odd - I saw the VC several times whilst at Durham, and could get in touch at short notice with someone who'd see him within a couple of weeks... different environments, I guess. Anyhow, I've found a rather well-executed CC-BY-NC licensed image on flickr - and have emailed the author to see if they'd be willing to relicense it. Shimgray | talk | 20:58, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Born in New Zealand in 1947, Professor Grant was awarded the LLB (1970), LLM (1973) and LLD (1986) by the Otago University, New Zealand. He then immigrated to England in 1986. This isnt copyvio as the words are not all the same - they have not been copied exactbut have been rewritten - the information is the same, but the prose is not. More over, the above is linked several times in the article. LordHarris 12:40, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Other than the university name it is exactly the same including punctuation. It does not matter if it is linked. It needs to be quoted and cited if you use more than a few words in a row.
Professor Grant was awarded the CBE in 2003 for services to planning law and local government.
This is also a copyvio as not quoted, and the citation for it is not the above mentioned webste. Aboutmovies 16:00, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I note that the article is generally well written and that it should be able to pass GA in the allotted time if the adjustments detailed below are made (or if you disagree then please let me know for each point).

I normally also suggest that as each adjustment is made, that editors place the template {{done}} after each part that is completed as this will provide all editors with a guide of what is completed in this fashion.Y Done

  2. Where possible set up appropriate wiki-links for the first occurrence of the following words or abbreviations (eg: lld – Doctor of Laws) and also for any other important words such as (there are a number I have not included here which could do with linking): llb; llm; spinal repair; women’s health; £;
  3. These two sentences are a little choppy – particularly in terms of the way they conjoin - and only just make a paragraph. I would suggest a little rewriting, and some expansion or combining with other parts in that section (In August, 2003, Grant left the University of Cambridge and become Provost and President of University College London.[8] It is a role equivalent to Vice-Chancellor at other United Kingdom universities.)
  4. The article uses two ways of expressing currency such as (generate 300 million pounds) and (£50 million). I suggest the choice of the latter throughout the document.
  5. Have a look at the quotes in the document and adjust to meet this guideline please: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Quotations_in_italics
  6. The start of these two sentences is POV (unfortunately?) and the sentences are a little choppy in terms of meeting encyclopaedic standards. (Unfortunately for his moustache — of 33 years — students and staff duly donated over £2,000.[12] However, it has since regrown.)
  7. Choose Professor Grant or Malcolm Grant, or Grant as your descriptor throughout the article.
  8. Sorry having read this whole part I think it needs to be rewritten to encyclopaedic standards and to meet criteria 1 at WP:GAC:
    (To gather additional funding for UCL, Grant has led UCL's attempt to reduce any increase in staff expenditure. In 2004 and 2005 this encountered protest from several members of the academic and support staff at the university.[13] This was part of the wider call for pay increases across UK universities by the Association of University Teachers (AUT). A partial boycott threatened UCL, although this was later resolved by a minor increase in pay.[14]In 2006 he was against the Israel university boycotts. [15] In 2006 Grant also controversially stated that European students had better English skills than many British students.[16][17]In 2007, Professor Grant said the achievement and academic gap between male and female students was widening. [18] Since 1998, 313,259 more women than men have made university applications. Malcolm Grant said, "the trend indicated a big fall in the number of university-educated men".[19]In January 2007 he argued that the entire nation-wide university approach to funding needed a different approach. [20] In regards to UCL's need for additional funding he stated the reasons in an interview with the BBC:)
