I'd like to solicit help on the Forkrul Assail, Jaghut and K'Chain Che'Malle pages that I've created, or will be creating in the coming weeks, they all need to be expanded and it's a pretty daunting task to do by myself. WLU 20:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't plan on reading past Gardens of the Moon, so I won't be any help to you, but here's some advice on getting more help: The easier it is to find your articles, the more people will read them and the more people will contribute to them. Links are a good way to get people to find your articles. Look through all the current Malazan articles for mentions of "Jaghut", "Forkrull Assail" etc. and turn them into links to your new articles. You might also want to create a Malazan category (those links at the very bottom of just about every article) so that it's easier to locate all the Malazan articles in Wikipedia. Also, you can edit the template for that box of links at the bottom to include links on other Malazan articles, like the ASOIAF pages have. Good luck! -Captain Crawdad 22:26, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, 's good advice, I appreciate it. I really do recommend reading further in the series, House of Chains is particularly compelling. But, to each his own, I haven't read aFfC yet. WLU 01:40, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Military

these are just some notes for a more formall discussion

Malazan armies seam curriously lacking in ranged (missle/artillery) weapon units.

Sappers (grenadiers) are intergrated into units, and individual soldiers might carry missile weapons, but there are no formations of speciallised ranged units (the most effective use of such weapons). Any pre-industrial, post-stirup army worth the name used combined arms. Artillery against fortifications and for v. long distances. Bows for to engage at a distance. Polearms (heavy infantry - HI) to hold positions in the field and defend other units. Sidearms (light infantry - LI) to attack polearmsmen and for fighting in confinded quarters - like fortifications. Heavy cavilary (HC) as for shock and to destroy anyone but polearmsmen. Light cavilary (LC) for scouting and scurmishing with or harrying anyone but the heavier infantry.

These units might be regular or auxillary units but any normal army will have them for purely mechanical reasons.

Malazan forces, unusually, seam to consist of medium infantry (MI), ala the Roman Legions. That is, armoured infantry armed with sidearms. All else being equal, MI will defeat both HI and LI but be worried by post-stirup LC and destroyed by HC. Witness the Chain of Dogs.

Garren Pereons (spelling definetly not right) unit in Falari did seam to consist of mounted infantry - hidiously expensive but the superior light unit.

In the battle for Coral, Wiskeyjack orders the Bridgeburners to equip long bows. This is problematic as long bows take years to learn - which is the reason the inferior cross bow was more popular. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jacob Vardy (talk • contribs) 09:26, 8 March 2007 (UTC).

On non Ranged auxtillery units (i don't know i might be talking crud :) ) Sappers arn't allowed to form up as auxetilery companies/units. sapper only units (lioke the mage cadre's* but with sappers) existed. but then Dassem Ultor (sp?) reconvcidered the idea, after one led by Spindle, tripped up unleashing a massive explosion (or something allong those lines). sappers aren't
  • on that note the Mager Cadre's are are auxtillery unit. and you might also consider the hands of the Claw, axtillerer units as well, especially when you look at it like when Collition (i tyhink it was him?) was talking about killing the wirlwind goddess: "the warren is breached. If we had a couple of hands of the Claw, and half a dozen High Mages, we could go in and finish the wirlwind goddess off now."
Also in the first book when the three high mages were flown in (warrened in?) to assualt moon's spawn above pale. they were auxtillery units too.
Howabout the black monerith when they bombed Coral with cussers, from the quorls? Or the transport of the qreen monerith? Oxinabox (talk) 14:11, 29 April 2008 (UTC) - revised (typo) 02:32, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a forum to discuss topics. Try www.malazanempire.com or the Starvald Demelain wiki. Talk pages are meant to discuss improvements and changes to the main page. WLU (talk) 18:09, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
My apologies if i have violated a rule, but I believe that this can be justerfied (afterall this page does not have major over load of topic discussion) as this could be considered (if someone as inlined to leniency) an attempt to clarify a topic, consolidate information on it, before it goes into the artical like in: [[1]]

[edit] "Wikified" warning

Just wondering if this "The article needs to be wikified..." warning can be removed - many relevant links have been added and the articles seems to follow proper wiki guidelines. Jeffsul (talk) 16:54, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
