[edit] when was ariary introduced?

In _The Standard Catalog of World Coins_, I see coins denominated in ariary starting with the Democratic Republic of Madagascar in 1975. There are also coins from the Malagasy Republic denominated in francs and ariary until 1989 (it says "FAMO?K?MBOLAN MY REPOBLIKA MALAGASY" on the coins, even though it became the Democratic Republic in 1975). Can anyone explain that? Ingrid 04:52, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Article name

Can someone cite a source for renaming this article? The CIA World Factbook says the currency name is "Malagasy ariary" [1] SDC 13:50, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

"Malagasy" is the adjective for the language and the ethnic group, but "Madagascan" is the adjective for the country. The situation is similar to Cambodian/Khmer. ā€”Nightstallion (?) 19:20, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Can you provide a source for this? SDC 00:07, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
From the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, definition of Malagasy shows that it means the people or language of Madagascar. definition of Madagascan links to the definition of Madagascar as a geographical location, and mentions Madagascan as the adjectival form. Ingrid 04:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
