[edit] Biographies

According to my knowledge there are only two comprehensive biographies of Mala Zimetbaum, and unfortunately these biographies are not available in English. Her first biographer was Lorenz Sichelschmidt (in 1995), and last year another biography written by GĂ©rard Huber was published in France.

I have not yet read Huber's biography, but I can recommend Sichelschmidt's book.

[edit] Escape from Auschwitz-Birkenau

I've changed the first sentence of this paragraph. The author says:

Edward "Edek" Galinski and a friend had been planning to escape even before Edek fell in love with Mala.

The name of the friend is Wieslaw Kielar (1919-1990). He wrote an important book on Auschwitz which has also been published in English. I don't know, however, whether the English version is still available.

[edit] Editing, references

I've begun some cleanup and expansion of this page to make it more appropriate for an encyclopedia, including the addition of references. Further contributions are welcome! -- Thank you, Deborahjay (talk) 13:38, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] YOB: 1918 vs. 1922

1922 (no month/date indicated) is given as Mala Zimetbaum's year of birth in her entry in the Encyclopedia of the Holocaust. The page as I found it gave 1918 but with no citation. For now, I've left the initial month/day and changed the year, on the page and the category. -- Deborahjay (talk) 13:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
