A decent article for this member of the Beatles' inner circle, but needs a good polish: a photo, sections, and references.--Steve (5 April 2006)

[edit] Photo

I have no idea where this photo came from, other than a tag accompanying it saying it is from 1968. It may be licensed, I really don't know. There aren't a lot of photos of Mal Evans out there (except for dark and blurry shots of him standing behind The Beatles).-ZincOrbie 13:58, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Start to B

I am working on this at the moment, and hope it will go from Start to B, and then to GA. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 18:53, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] B-class

I have changed this article to B-Class, as I believe it warrants it. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 18:09, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Work

I know the article looks a little bit less than perfect, but it is getting better - honest... ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 18:34, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A mess

It is a bit of a mess at the moment, but I am putting in everything (and there's not a lot) about Mal before polishing. Please edit when you can. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 20:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Poor old Mal - being sent out to buy socks for Lennon. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 14:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

A lot of stuff is going in there now, but it has to be sorted. No news about Mal's school though... ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 16:29, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Repetition

Hi Andreasegde, good work on the article so far. However, I've noticed that the first paragraph is just sentences copied from other sections - what's your opinion on this repetition? I'm aware this is the first comment on this page from anyone but you, so do I get a bottle of champagne or something? Liamshaw 22:51, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Because everything in the Lead should also be in the article. The Lead is a short summary (in three paragraphs) that gives a reflection of the whole thing. Anything that is in the Lead that is not in the article is frowned upon by the powers that be. You are right though, the Lead should be paraphrased so as to make it more interesting, but I'm just filling in the gaps before polishing. If you want to change it, then please, please do. It would save me doing it, and it would mean that two editors are working on it, which would be most welcome... :) ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 20:23, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA

Mal is now up for GA. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 12:15, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Added GAnominee at the top of this page. I am not familiar with the GA process so if that's wrong, please correct me. John Cardinal 12:37, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I thank you kindly. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 11:06, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Early life

I have tried as hard as I can to find out more about where Mal went to school and his early life, but have found absolutely nothing. I even sent an e-mail to Bill Harry and received two replies, but he didn't know anything either. I hope this does not affect the article's rating. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 18:07, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Would probably for Featured Status, not GA. M3tal H3ad 07:34, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Evans was the first of The Beatles' inner circle to die"

What about Epstein ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.169.176.65 (talk) 18:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC).

Bugger, you are TOTALLY right. How could I have missed that? I took it from a page about him, but I didn't see the obvious. I thank you very kindly (Mal thanks you as well... :) ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 19:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA on hold

  • There is some over wikilinking, The Beatles twice in the lead - John Lennon 3-4 times. Done
  • The first time you mention a person wikilink their name, the next time only refer to them with their surname with no link. Done
  • Dates are incorrectly formatted - 7 January should be January 7. Dates with year and month like this 23 July 1964, should be converted to July 23, 1964 with wikilinks. Done
  • Images are missing fair use rationales and a source (where you got the image from) Done
  • 'On film' contains several one sentence paragraphs Done
  • Don't wikilink solo years (I don't understand what you mean...) ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 12:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC) I do now ...
  • There's a reference to a lyrics site which breaches copyright Done
  • Miscellanea is basically a trivia section, remove or incorporate it into the body. Done
  • Web sources are missing publisher (site you got it from). Imdb is also an unreliable source and that ref needs to be changed, it's fan submitted. Done
  • Several one sentence paragraphs, remove, merge or expand. Done

Rest looks decent, i have this watch listed so if you have any queries or have edited the article accordingly leave a message here. M3tal H3ad 07:34, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Solo years - i meant is 1968 (a year by itself) should not be wikilinked Done
  • On 13 September 1969, - missed a date Done
  • Sorry should of made myself clearer - with sourcing images you need a weblink to the direct image, from amazon or CDuniverse preferably
  • Images still need fair use rationales - see Image:Reign in blood.jpg for an example of a detailed fair use rationale. Done

The Beatles photo that is now in is fair use, and is used in Yesterday, which is a Featured Article, so that is OK. The others are fair/free use. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 13:36, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I thank you very much, M3tal H3ad, for not only reviewing this article, but also for pointing out some obvious mistakes that I really should have seen. ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 16:42, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Good work. M3tal H3ad 01:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC
Not sure where to list it, i put it under historical figures, which is probably wrong, but he isn't a performers, group, or composer so i believe its the most suitable section- feel free to change it. M3tal H3ad 01:13, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Date question

Should the lifespan dates (after name in paragraph 1, and in infobox) be in British "dd mmm yyyy" format? I assume they should, but didn't want to change them because I might be crossing a Wikipedia policy about those specific dates... John Cardinal 23:16, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

If you think they are wrong then go for it John. (I'm a poet and I don't know it...) ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 06:01, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
I did it. Thanks, John (any relation to him? :) ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 16:19, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Whom him? John Cardinal 08:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Johnny Winston O'Boogie MBE (returned). It was not "I'm only sleeping", it was "I'm only joking" :) ThE bEaTLeS aka andreasegde 17:26, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Date of diaries

the article says that extracts of Evan's diaries have recently been released. It doesn't say the actual date they were released. (Unsigned)

Look at the reference from "Timesonline". --andreasegde (talk) 17:40, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] His death

Although the police report specifically mentions a rifle, it seems difficult to see how even a police officer could mistake an air pistol for a rifle!? Unsigned comment by 198.166.255.32.

Yeh guys there is something weird about this whole cops and the air rifle thing. For a start there is no such thing as a 30.30 air gun. I have never heard of this air rifle bit before.
"The officers repeatedly told Evans to put down the rifle (which they did not know was an air-rifle) but Evans constantly refused. The police fired six shots, of which four struck Evans". Air-rifles look a lot like normal rifles, and can be just as deadly if they use pressurised gas cannisters. --andreasegde (talk) 17:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References

Any edit made without a verifiable reference will be deleted, including edits that are slipped into referenced sentences, BTW. --andreasegde (talk) 02:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Strange image

First off, nice article, all who worked on it. But in the "Later life and death" section, the image of the National Portait Gallery is rather strange - it's not even referenced in the text as far I I could tell. If his portrait is in there, shouldn't it simply be addressed in text, rather than in a caption on an image that doesn't show anything? Huw Powell (talk) 22:47, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I switched the photos around, so all is now clear. The painting of Evans is referenced, but was in the wrong section. Well spotted.--andreasegde (talk) 11:53, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
