Maltz is a Klingon featured in the science fiction film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. In the film he served as first officer aboard the Klingon Bird of Prey that fought and ultimately led to the destruction of the Starship Enterprise during the scenes over the planet Genesis. Maltz was played by actor John Larroquette.
In this film, Maltz becomes the only surviving member of his crew. When the Enterprise crew takes over the Bird of Prey after defeating the Klingons, Kirk orders Maltz to "join us or die!" Maltz bravely intones, "I do not deserve to live!", to which Kirk glibly replies, "Fine. I'll kill you later." When Maltz finds out he is to be detained and treated humanely, he expresses outrage in a final humorous exchange with Kirk.
By the next film, Maltz's ultimate fate is not told. He travels with the Enterprise crew to the planet Vulcan (the planet in which Spock is from) in his captured ship at the end of Star Tek III. But He was not mentioned in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, indicating he was likely left to be dealt with on Vulcan.
According to the novelization of the fourth movie (Vonda McIntyre, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (ISBN-13: 978-0671702830)), Maltz died while in captivity, apparently a suicide--although the Klingon Ambassador claimed that the Federation had executed the prisoner to remove the last "objective" witness of the events that occurred on the Genesis Planet.
