The Malthouse Theatre is a theatre complex in Southbank, part of arts precinct of inner city Melbourne. It houses three theatres, the largest holding up to 520 patrons, rehearsal studios, and meeting rooms. It shares a courtyard with the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, and the combined complex goes by the name of Ngargee, which is a Bunurong - that is, local Aboriginal tribe and guardians - word describing gathering for celebration.

The CUB malthouse, originally built in 1892 was redeveloped and opened in 1990 to become the new home for the Playbox Theatre Company as the theatre's original home had been destroyed by fire. The Malthouse building is heritage registered and recognisable from Sturt Street with its distinctive high pitched galvanised iron roofline.

The theatre hosts numerous plays, attracting profile actors such as Geoffrey Rush, Kevin Harrington and many others.
