Mallur is located at 11.55° N 78.13° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 293 metres (961 feet).

The Kongu polytecnic college is one of the best educational institutions in mallur. This college is located on the way between Salem and mallur on NH-7.The college is 11.5 km from Salem new bustand,2 km from mallur and 6.5 km south of salem city limit.

It has one of the best schools for the higher secondary education. The water theme park "paravasa ulagam" is located near mallur.

The Government has sanctioned to lay 4 lane road. NH7 which is the longest National highway in INDIA bisects the village. The new road will reduce the traffic through the village.

Mallur is situated at a distance of 13.5 km from Salem and 13.5 km from Rasipuram.The town is located near several mountain ranges.

As of 2001 India census[2], Mallur had a population of 9796. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Mallur has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 53%. In Mallur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
