Mallot

Mallot is a town in Bagh District, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. It is located at 34°5'50N 73°40'50E[1] with an altitude of 2,000 metres. It is situated 17km north west from Bagh city and to the east of Dhirkot. As well as its scenery the area is known for its historic background.

The people of Mallot belong to various tribes, such as Sudhun, Mughal, Khaka Rajpooth, Narma Rajpooth, Taziyal Rajpooth, Qarashi, Hashmi, Abbasi. Mallot is one of the places in Azad Kashmir where all the major tribal groups are represent.Taziyal rajput is the branch of khaka rajput.[2]

Mallot is also the centre point for four Union Councils, namely union council Thob, union council Mallot, union council Jaglari and union council Rangla.

Mallot is well connected with major roads, it's connected with the Main Rawalpindi-Bagh road via Jaglari Namanpora, from the south west it’s connected via Harigal, from the west it’s connected via Challa , from north west it’s connected via Bisbagla Dhirkot, from north east it’s connected via Thob, Panili road.

There is one girls inter college and one boys inter science college and some private schools. In addition many primary and middle schools for both boys and girls are also available in the surrounding villages.

There is one Special Communication Organization's digital exchange which is providing the communication facilities to surrounding villages through landlines and also some major private companies boosters are functioning in the area such as Telenor, Ufone Mobilink and Zong.

There are very few jobs available within Mallot, number of people are occupying the services in Government of Azad Kashmir and Pakistan, some join Pakistan Army and reasonable personnel are doing their own business all over the Pakistan. People of this region play volley ball and cricket.

[edit] Earthquake of 2005

Mallot and its surrounding towns were totally destroyed from the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, hundreds of people were killed or injured by this quake. 100% population was left homeless. Most of the houses have been reconstructed though with the help of the Governments of Pakistan, Azad Kashmir and local/ International NGOs.

Cuba, along with other countries provided medical assistance to the population. People are very generous and helpful in this area.

During the earthquake rehabilitation phase Mallot was major place for the Pak Army and other NGO’s for their rescue and other operations due to its unique location. A President award was given to a Mallot resident Mr. Sayyad Ahmed Khan, Principle of SAHARA Children Academy Mallot, on his outstanding performance despite that he himself suffer with earthquake.He has also written a Book "SUBHE-OCTOBER KE UN-MITT NAQOOSH" in which the Disastrous moments of the earthquake of 8th Oct 2005,are mentioned as he seen. In addition two more books were written by Mallot residents, 1st by Sardar Abdul Aziz Khan (HAMALYAH KE DAMIN MYN SUBHA QYIMT and 2nd one written by Obaid Ahmed Chughtai (HAMALYAH KA KANPTHA DAMIN).These books also possess the Photgraphs after the disaster,that self speak about that wrost incident.These books also includes an aknowledgement and dedication of PAK.ARMY,NGO'S,CIVIL SOCIETY,NATO FORCES & INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY. The Literacy rate in area is about 80%.

A monument was constructed near Boys College Mallot in the remembrance of earthquake victims, with the help of Pak Army. The names of all those personnel who were died with earthquake in the area are displayed on the monument.
