Malibu Stakes

The Malibu Stakes is a race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses of either gender held each December at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race is at a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt and is the first leg of Santa Anita Park's Strub Series.
A Grade I event with a $250,000 purse, it attracts some of America's best horses following the Breeders' Cup.
Pleasant Tap won the Malibu in 1990, Ferdinand in 1986, Precisionist in 1985, Ancient Title in 1974, Damascus in 1968, Buckpasser in 1966, Native Diver in 1962, Tompion in 1960, and Round Table in 1958.
Spectacular Bid won this race in 1980 (when it was a grade 2 race) and in the process setting the stakes race record at 1:20 flat.
