Malgobek

Malgobek (Russian: Малгобек; Ingush: МагIалбике – Maġalbike) is a town in the Republic of Ingushetia, Russia. It is situated some 45 km northwest of the republics capital, Magas. Population: 43,442 (2006 est.); 41,876 (2002 Census); 20,400 (1989 Census).
Malgobek was founded in 1935 as a settlement for workers at the recently discovered oilfields nearby. Town status was granted in 1939.
During World War II Malgobek was occupied by German forces from September 12, 1942 to January 3, 1943, when it was recaptured by the Red Army.
In the 1990s the towns population doubled, because of an influx of refugees from the wartorn neighbouring republic of Chechnya.
Besides the oil activities of the company Ingushneftegasprom, the towns industry includes woodworking and food related industries.
