In the fictional Robotech universe, the Malcontent Uprisings was a period of Civil unrest among the Zentraedi of Earth. It took place between the 1st and 2nd Robotech wars. The Uprisings were put down in 2019, three years before the departure of the SDF-3 and her mission to the Robotech Masters homeworld of Tirol. The Malcontent Uprisings see the development and first deployment of many of the mecha later used by the Robotech Expeditionary Force and the Army of the Southern Cross, including the VHT series Veritech Hover Tanks (VHT-1 Centaur and VHT-2 Spartas) and advanced Veritech Fighters like the VF/A-6 Alpha and VF-8 Logan.

Del Rey Books published a novelization titled The Zentraedi Rebellion as part of its "Lost Generation" series. Author Jack McKinney acknowledges the work of comic writer Bill Spangler and RPG publisher Kevin Siembieda, but also apologizes for changes made to the events of 2018 in the novelization, which itself begins in the year 2015.

[edit] Role-playing game

The Robotech RPG published by Palladium Books included a number of books that dealt with the events during the Malcontent Uprising period, though never directly using that title, such as Book VIII: Strike Force and Robotech Adventures: Zentraedi Breakout which had players engaging Zentraedi hold-outs in South America with late RDF and early ASC mecha.
