[edit] Character history

Malcolm arrived in Genoa City in 1994, determined to get to know his estranged brother, Neil (Kristoff St. John). Neil, at first, wanted nothing to do with his rebellious younger brother, but eventually decided to give him a second chance. With the help of Blade Bladeson (Michael Tylo), Malcolm became Genoa City's most prominent photographer.

He soon met Drucilla Barber (Victoria Rowell) and was instantly taken with her, but nothing became of the relationship and she married Neil. Malcolm and Drucilla longed for one another, so it felt like a green light one night to Malcolm when he and Drucilla had sex. However, Drucilla had taken a good dose of cold medication, thus mistaking Malcolm for Neil. Drucilla called out for Neil, which made Malcolm realize her advances were not intended for him. The following morning Malcolm realised what a mistake he had made and confided in Dru's sister, Olivia (Tonya Lee Williams).

Nine months later, Drucilla gave birth to a daughter, Lily. Having convinced herself that Neil was Lily's father, Dru forgave Malcolm and Olivia soon fixed him up with her hospital colleague, Keesha Monroe (Wanda Acuna/Jennifer Gatti). They fell in love and married just before Keesha died of AIDS.

Malcolm then started developing a relationship with recently-widowed Olivia and grew very attached to her son Nate (Bryant Jones). Malcolm and Olivia married in 1997. One year later, Malcolm's ex-girlfriend Callie Rogers (Michelle Thomas/Siena Goines) arrived in town and Olivia became jealous that Malcolm was spending so much time with her. Olivia's insecurity ultimately destroyed her marriage to Malcolm and he rebounded back to Callie. The two became engaged but Callie soon broke it off and left town.

Malcolm and Neil soon found themselves fighting over a woman - Alex Perez (Alexia Robinson). While Malcolm drove over a bridge in Kenya, the bridge collapsed and Malcolm was presumed dead.

However, he returned three years later with a massive chip on his shoulder - he resented Neil, believing Neil didn't do enough to rescue him in Kenya. Eventually the two buried the hatchet. Malcolm then demanded that Dru take a paternity test to find out who was Lily's (Christel Khalil) real father. When Malcolm was proven to be Lily's father, he and Dru decided to keep it a secret and he left town (although Lily and Neil have since discovered the truth about her paternity).
