Malawian democracy referendum, 1993

The 1993 Malawian democracy referendum was a referendum on 14 June 1993 in which Malawians voted on whether to introduce a multi-party system or maintain the single-party state. The voters voted nearly 2-1 in favor of a multiparty system, with the resulting presidential election seeing the end of the Hastings Banda regime.
