Malakand District is one of the districts in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

District Malakand is divided into two tehsils : Dargai and Batkhela.

The famous Malakand Pass which connect Mardan to Swat and Dir is located near Dargai,Where the local Pushtun tribes fought two fierce battle with the British army in 1895 and 1897.
Before 1970 it was under the control of Federal Government, in 1970 it came under the administration of provincial government. It has historical importance because it forms a link between the Northern Areas and Chitral.

- Population of the district will reach to 567000 in 2004-05.
- Agriculture is the major source of income.
- Total cultivatable land is 456600 hectors.
- Majority of the people are Pashtuns speaking Pashto as their mother tongue.
