Mala, Kerala

Mala is the name of a small town in Thrissur district of Kerala, south India. K. Karunakaran, the former Chief Minister of Kerala, represented Mala constituency for several years. The famous Malayalam film actor Mala Aravindan is a native of Mala. One old Jewish synagogue is also situated in Mala. The very famous Pambu mekkattu mana located here attract thousands of devotees every year.

Another place of historic attraction in Mala is the Jewish Cemetery, located near the Mala police station. There used to be the presence of Jewish Community in Mala many decades ago and their old synagogue is still kept as a monument in the centre of Mala town. A Christian girls college Carmel College is there also. One of oldest Carmelite Monasteries is located in this town named Kottackal St. Theresa's Monastery built by Blessed Chavara Kuriakose in 1867 A D. Mala is also an educational hub consisting of an Engineering College, BEd College, an MBA College, a Govt. ITI and many other professional institutions. A Medical college is proposed to be setup here. Mala is also very scenic and it is adjacent to back waters connected to Arabian sea makes it unique small town between Chalakkudy and Kodungallur (where St. Thomas the apostle of Jesus Christ believed landed in A D 52).

Mala used to be one of the supporting lands for former Chief Minister Mr. K. Karunakaran and he has made his way to the Assembly House number of times by electing from Mala. Mala is very peaceful and there are Christians, Hindus and Muslims here who socially interact and live harmoniously. Other privilege the villagers are blessed with is the transport system, consisting of Private and Government Transport Bus Depots in this small village.
