For what it's worth, I didn't mean to snap at you in particular; there's a lot of tendency on the part of some editors at the Ref Desk to jump in with some answer – any answer – just so they can be first. Some probably think that they're helping, a few may just want to appear helpful. In any case, it's counterproductive—speculating solely from a non-expert's intuition doesn't do anything for the questioner that they couldn't guess on their own. The presence of an answer may also deter other individuals from responding, as they may figure that a question's already been handled. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:26, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
