Makoto-chan (まことちゃん?) is a shōnen gag manga by Kazuo Umezu. The series was initially published in Shōnen Sunday from the late 1970s through the early 1980s, and later returned at the end of the decade retitled as "Heisei-ban Makoto-chan".

[edit] Plot

The series follows the odd life of kindergartener Makoto Sawada and his family. Makoto gets into all sorts of toilet and adult humor. He sometimes dresses in his mother's and sister's clothing, and often has a long strand of mucus dangling from his nose.

[edit] Trivia

  • Makoto's grandfather is the main character of another of Kazuo Umezu's works entitled Again.
  • One of the most familiar aspects of the series is the catch phrase used by many of the characters, "Gwashi!", which is accompanied by a hand sign made by pressing the middle and pinky fingers down while leaving the other fingers sticking out.
