Makhtab al-Khidmat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maktab al Khidmat (also known as 'the Afghan Bureau") is a militia formed during the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Dr Abdullah Azzam founded the group in 1984, with the assistance of his protege Osama bin Laden.[1]

The 9-11 Commission reports that originally the group was a US ally, stating the group:[1]

"...even had 30 officers inside the United States during the Cold War, when Maktab al-Khidmat fought against the Soviets in Afghanistan."
