Maker Faire is an event created by Make Magazine to "celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset." Called the "Maker Faire," the first was held April 22 – 23, 2006 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. It included 6 exposition & workshop pavilions, a 5-acre outdoor midway, over 100 exhibiting Makers, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and DIY competitions. Austin, Texas was the second city chosen to host Maker Faire, which occurred on October 20 - 21, 2007.
The 2008 Maker Faire was held May 3 & 4, at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Highlights of the faire included a life-sized mousetrap, kinetic squid sculpture, bicycle-powered music stage, a solar-powered chariot pulled by an Arnold Schwarzenegger robot,[1] and over 500 booths from different makers. There was approximately 65,000 people in attendance [2].
