The Make A Child Smile Organization, also known as MACS, is a charitable organization which seeks to provide emotional support to children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses and their families by creating the opportunity for people to visit the MACS website and learn about the children and their illnesses. The organization was founded in May of 1998 by Alexandra Bakker.
Each month, new children are featured on the website, where pictures and biographies of the children is published along with information about their family. Hundreds of 'net surfers, schools, service organizations, girls/boys scouts and church groups use the MACS website as a philanthropic project,[citation needed] where they can send cards, letters and small gifts to the featured children and their siblings through postal mail.
The profiles of children who have been featured in the past, are located in the "Previous Kids" section of the website, and visitors can also send mail to those kids.
