Mak 'Kusare

Mak ’Kusare is a Nigerian film director who won three awards for his first film Ninety Degrees in 2006, at the Zuma Film Awards in Abuja, Nigeria. He wrote, directed and produced his first feature-length movie on video format which was shot entirely on location in Jos, Nigeria. The film won ‘Best Director,’ ‘Best First Film/Video of a Director’ and ‘Best Feature Film’ awards. ’Kusare has also produced for radio, television and video.

He is also this year’s International Young Screen Entrepreneur (IYSE). The Delta State native was born on 2nd March, 1978 and has said in various press interviews that he had initially set out to study Medicine to become a doctor. "But my romance with film turned out to be stronger than I’d thought," he said. ’Kusare went on to graduate from the National Film Institute in Jos, in 2000 and proceeded to Africa Independent Television (AIT) as a producer/director of TV magazine programmes, special features and documentaries.

Mak ’Kusare, born in Benin City to parents from Delta State - is a graduate of the National Film Institute in Jos. His efforts and contributions to Nigerian film is fast gaining international acclaim.

Currently, ’Kusare works with the BBC World Service Trust as a director on the HIV/AIDS-awareness TV series Wetin Dey.
