Major Cineplex Ratchayothin (Thai: เมเจอร์ ซีนีเพล็กซ์ รัชโยธิน) is an entertainment and shopping complex on Phaholyothin Road in Lat Yao, Chatuchak District, Bangkok. Operated by Thailand's largest movie-theater chain, Major Cineplex, it has a 14-screen multiplex cinema, a 38-lane bowling alley, karaoke rooms, restaurants and shops.

Opened in 1998, Major Ratchayothin housed the first IMAX cinema in Thailand. In 2006, the IMAX facility was moved to Siam Paragon. With 4,014 seats, Ratchyothin was Thailand's largest multiplex cinema until it was surpassed by the 14-screen, 5,000 seat Paragon Cineplex. Ratchayothin remains the flagship of the Major Cineplex brand theaters though the company has a new flagship brand, the Esplanade Cineplex, which opened in December 2006 at the Esplanade complex at Ratchadaphisek Road.

The six-story shopping center has a shopping arcade with a variety of restaurants. There is also a fitness center. Outside the mall is a wholesale market selling inexpensive clothing, fashion accessories and watches.

Ticket prices range from 120 baht to 140 baht with discounts sometimes available for off-peak showtimes. The cinemas are designed with three themes:

Europe – Offers privacy with detached luxury twin seats and side tables).
Egypt – An Egyptian-style movie theater, based on the traditional and historic design elements of Ancient Egypt.
Hollywood – Decorated with colorful lights, sparkling stars and palm trees.

Seating arrangements include the "Honeymoon" seats, designed for couples, and "First Class" seats, which feature thickly padded, reclining chairs.

The Bangkok Metro's Phahon Yothin station, about one kilometer away at Central Plaza Lat Phrao, is the nearest subway station.

Near Major Ratchayothin on Phahonyothin Road are JUSCO, Index Living Mall, Central Plaza Lat Phrao and Union Mall. On the opposite you can find the Elephant Building and SCB Park Plaza. Next to Major Cineplex Ratchayothin they are building Wind Ratchayothin.

[edit] Bombing attempt

The complex was a target in the 2006 Bangkok bombings on December 31, 2006. A security guard found a suspicious black bag left unattended in a fast food outlet and placed the bag in a back room. The bomb exploded sometime afterwards, causing a blackout in the cineplex's retail area. There were no casualties or injuries. The cineplex owner only alerted Phahon Yothin police on January 1, fearing negative publicity.^[1]
