Majin Boo (魔人ブウ Majin Bū?) is a fictional supervillain who first appears in the Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama. As the manga was adapted to anime, it was split into two sub-series; Boo appears in the second sub-series called Dragon Ball Z, and a third anime-only sub-series called Dragon Ball GT. Following the success of Dragon Ball, he also makes a minor reappearance in Toriyama's self-parody called Neko Majin Z.

Boo was rated by Wizard magazine as the 40th greatest villain of all time.[1]

Like many Dragon Ball characters Boo's name is part of a joke. When placed with his creators Bibidi and Babidi, the names phonetically form the phrase, "Bibidi Babidi Boo" — a parody of the song "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" — featured in Disney's Cinderella.

Boo is introduced in the series during the Buu Saga as an innocent looking pudgy pink genie-like creature. Later in the series, it is revealed that Boo's original form is a more sleek child form ("The Boo of Pure Evil"), however his nature and form had been altered after he'd assimilated the gentle, pudgy god (Dai kaioshin) into his body. Boo's creator, a wizard named Bibbidi, had used Boo to wage war on the Kaioshin. Boo managed to assimilate two of the four Kaioshin, the second being the one who altered his nature to become innocent. Before assimilating the second Kaioshin, he had killed the third Kaioshin. After Bibbidi sealed Boo away, Bibbidi was killed by the fourth Kaioshin, and Boo was transported to planet Earth where it lay dormant for five million years until Boo is revived by Bibbidi's son Babbidi during the events of Dragon Ball.

[2] and Oob is the pure good, reincarnated version of Kid Boo.[3]

Boo has numerous counterparts in the series. When he first emerges from his shell, he is tall and round, and his personality is naive and innocent. The first form of Boo kills Babidi, however soon befriends a human named Mr. Satan, and later a puppy which Boo finds and heals after he'd decided to go on a killing rampage. After realizing that the puppy liked him, Boo names the puppy Bay (Bee in English). Despite Boo's sudden change of heart, two gunmen destroy his house and attempt to kill Bay and Mr. Satan. Due to his rage at the gunman, Boo's anger manifests itself in the from of another Boo ("The Boo of Pure Wrath").

After a battle with the superior Boo of Pure Wrath, Boo is absorbed and the two combined create Super Boo, who tracks down the protagonists of the series Piccolo and Gotenks. After absorbing them, Boo is faced by another character named Son Gohan. After absorbing Son Gohan, Boo is confronted by the character Vegetto, where he is forced to separate from all the characters at which he'd absorbed, including the Good Boo. As a result, he reverts to his purest form, the original child state called "The Boo of Pure Evil". After a long hard battle, the characters Son Goku, Majin Boo, and Vegeta topple Kid Boo.

Upon the request of Son Goku, Boo is reincarnated in the form of a human named Oob.

[edit] Video games

Boo has appeared in many Dragon Ball video games. Most games have only featured his Super Boo, Kid Boo and Fat Boo forms, though recent games such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi and its sequels have made Evil Gray Boo available to be played as well.

[edit] Neko Majin Z

Fat Boo appears as a cameo in Neko Majin Z, a short series of one-shot manga chapters by Toriyama. Neko Majin's friend finds Boo just wandering around after mistaking him for Neko Majin. Boo is surprised that Neko Majin's friend doesn't know who he is and breaks the fourth wall by mentioning that he's from the Dragon Ball manga. Boo displays his strength while Neko Majin's friend remains unsurprised and responds by saying that Neko Majin does stuff like that all the time (he also mentions how Neko Majin looks and acts similar to Boo). Boo leaves and tells Neko Majin's friend to call him to fight Neko Majin when he comes around. Later, Neko Majin's rival had stolen the source of his power, so Neko Majin's friend called Boo and told him that Neko Majin's rival was Neko Majin. Boo easily beats him and leaves very unfulfilled.
