Majaz Lucknawi (1909 - 5 December 1955) was a romantic revolutionary poet of India born in Rudauli, Bara Banki. His real name was Asrar ul Haq. He composed ghazals and nazms in Urdu. He is also famous for his composition of the anthem (tarana) of Aligarh Muslim University. A heavy drinking alcoholic shayar, he died a lonely death in Lucknow. A little known fact about Majaz is that his sister, Safia Akhtar, a teacher and writer, was the wife of Urdu poet, songwriter, and lyricist Jan Nisar Akhtar and the mother of legendary Urdu poet, songwriter, and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Indian Postal Service, India issued a commemorative postage-stamp on Asrar Ul Haq 'Majaaz' on 28 March, 2008.
