To report an error you have noticed on the current Main Page or tomorrow's Main Page please add it to the appropriate section below. Errors can be fixed faster when a correction is offered, so please be specific. You can do this by pressing the [edit] button to the right of the appropriate section's heading. Also, please sign your post using four tildes ( ~~~~ )

Note that the current date and time are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which may not coincide with your local time zone. The next day's featured article of the day, picture of the day, and anniversaries update at midnight (00:00) according to UTC. The current time is 23:57 on June 11, 2008 (UTC). (Update)

Once an error has been fixed, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history to verify that the error has been rectified and for any other comments the administrator may have made. Lengthy discussions should not take place here, and should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.

References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error, and a suggested rewording is helpful with a stylistic complaint. The main page usually defers to supporting pages when there is disagreement, so it is best to achieve consensus and make any necessary changes there first.

[edit] Tomorrow's Main Page general discussion

The Main Page has five dynamic sections that update daily. Today's Featured Article, This Day in History, and the Picture of the Day run on pre-planned schedules. Did you know is drafted a day in advance as opposed to several months, and In the news is updated in real time. Using {{Day+1}} and other methods, these sections are shown here as they will appear on tomorrow's Main Page. This allows editors to make sure everything is running smoothly, or to report errors in advance at Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors. This page updates automatically. In case there is a problem, anyone can view (and administrators can edit) tomorrow's:

Contents

[edit] New Year's fix

{{editprotected}}

In lieu of {{CURRENTYEAR}}:

{{#ifeq: {{Day+1}} | January 1 | {{#expr: {{CURRENTYEAR}} + 1}} | {{CURRENTYEAR}}}}

æ² 2006-07-27t21:22z

Done; thanks for telling me about that.--HereToHelp 22:18, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Did you know error

The did you know section contains one of them example images, I'm not authorised to edit it but somebody who is should do it :)

It gets fixed by tomorrow.--HereToHelp 13:52, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Introduction errors

The introduction to this page contains 2 errors. "5 dynamic section" should be "5 dynamic sections" and "on tomorrow" should be "tomorrow".

Done. Kusma (討論) 10:00, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Additional grammar mistake in introduction - "In case their is a problem" should read "In case there..."

Done. I hope "your" happy.--HereToHelp 22:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Will wikipedia be up tomorrow?

I think it would be cool if after wikipedia goes down for a bit the main page made some mention of why. Mathiastck 20:14, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

It's just server issues. But yes, we anticipate the site to be working tomorrow.--HereToHelp 20:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia is notable enough that it going down is notable. A lot of wiki users like to know what, and whatnot. Mathiastck 00:02, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
IMO, there really should be a small banner just saying sory for the inconvenience and a short explaination of what the problem was, as well as an assurance of when the problem will be more permenantly resolved.--82.26.87.64 17:28, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, I don't have any knowledge that you can't find in the Wikipedia article and the Wikipedia Signpost technology report.--HereToHelp 23:00, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit links

Since this is for admin use it might be worthwhile having edit links for each section. violet/riga (t) 22:52, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

That throws off the formatting and is self defeating, but I'll add the links as text.--HereToHelp 23:01, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Beckham

Someone PLEASE take Beckham off the frontpage. Me and millions of others don't need reminding that a trained monkey makes 250 mil in 5 years. --Energman 22:00, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK Next update

due to the new Cascade protection system, and its application to this page, I'd ask that admins not substitute {{Did you know/Next update}} for {{Did you know}}, since the former is intended to be open for editing by non-admins. Thanks! GeeJo (t)(c) • 01:03, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redlink

Featured Picture summary is a redlink at the top of this talk page, and I had a major adventure trying to fix the picture caption. I still don't know what would repair the redlink. Art LaPella 03:12, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Done.--HereToHelp 00:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Art LaPella 01:07, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cascading protection incorrectly applied to featured articles

For the second day in a row, the featured article has been cascade-protected because of this page. As such, I have disabled cascading protection until someone can verify that this won't happen again Raul654 00:08, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Why was it cascaded in the first place?--HereToHelp 03:11, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
The problem is caused by the issue discussed on Talk:Main Page#Today's FA. Somebody is vandalizing the unprotected POTD template, transcluding the TFA article, before it appears here at 0:00 UTC.[1] [2] Just by disabling cascade protection here will not solve the problem by itself, because the vandal will wait an extra day just before it goes on Main Page itself. The only way to solve this issue is to protect all TFA, SA, and POTD templates and images manually. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:38, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
To clarify, the basic idea is to check manually and not just rely on using cascade protection here. Unchecked, a vandal will be able to transclude various articles on unprotected templates at 23:59 UTC, seconds before it falls under Main Page/Tomorrow. Once the clock strikes 0:00 UTC, these various articles will also automatically be cascade protected. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 20:28, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
So why was the featured article protected if it wasn't transcluded here, only linked?--HereToHelp 03:31, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Um... what? Someone has managed to get the featured article protected for a while... therefor we need to remove protection? I'm not following. Removing cascading protection on this page simply allows them to pull the same trick a day later... there is now nothing stopping an edit to the POTD just before midnight the day it goes on the Main page itself. So removing cascading protection from this page does nothing to stop this 'unwanted protection' problem and re-introduces the possibility of vandal images on the Main page. Wouldn't it make more sense to protect the POTD and all sub-pages a few days before they go live? In any case, I'm restoring cascade protection to this page since its removal accomplishes exactly nothing except greater opportunities for vandalism. --CBD 11:21, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
I get that. Someone will just have to check this page to see if any of these templates are vandalized before they go 'live" ("cascading watching", anyone?). What i don't get is why Raul said that it protects the featured article itself. It should only protect the templated blurb.--HereToHelp 11:33, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
The vandal was adding {{Name of Featured Article}} to the POTD template. That transcluded the entire featured article onto the 'Main Page/Tomorrow' and caused it to be cascade protected. --CBD 11:42, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New page

I have created Main Page/In two days. This page is NOT cascade protected and thus does not protect pages it transcludes. Each day one or more people (including me) should click 'edit' on that page and check the transclusion list to see if any pages (other than the FA count javascript) are unprotected. If they are then put temporary protection on them lasting for three days (or midnight of the day they will come OFF the Main page). Then click the images displayed on the featured article, on this day, and picture of the day sections and similarly protect them. --CBD 11:45, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bob Barker

I believe that in honor of this most easily recognized American Icon, he should be featured in the daily articles, seeing as today was the airing of his last show.

The usual procedure for that is at Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page/Candidates. Art LaPella 22:34, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WHY???

Does wikipedia even NEED a MainPage/Tomorrow? I see that it's completely unneccessary. Why not just replace the Main Page every day instead of creating 2 Main Pages??????? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.188.56.207 (talk • contribs).

As stated near to the top of this page, this allows editors to make sure everything is running smoothly, and to report errors in advance at Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors, before it appears on the actual main page. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:46, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tornado "outbreak"

Tornadoes occur, they don't have "outbreaks" Acne has outbreaks. This seems to imply that more tornadoes may spawn up from the existing ones. 140.211.54.198 (talk) 18:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC) "I'm at your mammas house"

I got 189,000 Google hits for tornado outbreak (without quotes), and 336,000 Google hits for tornado occur (without quotes), so both descriptions are fairly common. Art LaPella (talk) 21:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Seal change

{{editprotected}} Please change Image:Ky_CSA_Seal.svg with Image:Kentucky_CSA_Seal.svg. It was really aliased before because a number of the layers were duplicated within the SVG file. I corrected this, colours, and made other minor corrections. Thanks! TIM KLOSKE|TALK 01:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

N Not done Non-free images cannot appear on the Main Page for legal reasons. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 12:19, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

{{editprotected}}

I changed the licensing. Please replace Image:Ky_CSA_Seal.svg with Image:Kentucky_CSA_Seal.svg. It is a derivative of the original PD seal so it's probably still in the public domain (if it ever even was). TIM KLOSKE|TALK 16:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Not done: that is quite clearly a completely different image to Image:Ky_CSA_Seal.svg. You can't just change the summary and magically turn it into a public-domain image. Happymelon 17:33, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

{{editprotected}}

N Not done While there are doubts as to the licensing of even the current image, I'm not prepared to make this edit. Please direct your request to the link provided by Tkgd2007. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 12:29, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Image:Kentucky_CSA_Seal.svg is a more accurate seal that I made from working off of the old seal. It more accurately represents the confederate state seal for Kentucky. I recommend either replacing Image:Ky_CSA_Seal.svg with Image:Kentucky_CSA_Seal.svg, or remove the seal altogether. Frankly, a confederate state seal for Kentucky shouldn't really be in the public domain in the first place. I think the licensing is probably wrong... TIM KLOSKE|TALK 18:48, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Please keep in mind that the proper place for such changes is at #Main Page error reports above. ffm 20:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
