Maiwand is a village of Afghanistan, 50 miles northwest of Kandahar.

It is chiefly notable for the Battle of Maiwand in which a defeat was inflicted on a British brigade under General Burrows by Ayub Khan on 27 July 1880 during the second Afghan War.

Maiwand is also a prestigious and proud name for afghan males.
