The Maine Lottery is run by the state of Maine. It is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), whose flagship game is Powerball.
Maine originally joined MUSL in 1990, when the Iowa-based organization offered only Lotto*America (as of June 2008, the largest prize in Maine Lottery history came from that game.) It pulled out two years later, when Powerball was introduced. Not until 2004, when it rejoined MUSL, did Maine start offering Powerball.
The other lottery games (except for instant tickets) played in Maine are organized by the Tri-State Lottery, which consists of the three northernmost states within New England.
The minimum age to purchase a Maine Lottery ticket is 18.
