Maine's second congressional district is the larger of Maine's two congressional districts, covering most of the state. At 27,326 square miles, it is currently the largest congressional district east of the Mississippi River (and 24th largest overall).
The district is currently represented by Democratic Congressman Mike Michaud.
[edit] History
See District of Maine.
Maine used to be part of Massachusetts. Massachusetts had been allocated 20 districts after the 1810 census. When Maine became a state in 1820, 7 of those districts were credited to it.
Since then, all but the 1st and 2nd districts have become obsolete.
